They do say about 8hours and about 3times that length for titanium, if you don't count the hours new project new needle
I just bought Titanium needles at the Quilt Festival and was told by die guy from Barnyarns it would last up to 40 hours
I probably use my needle for too long but I usually get about 50,000 stitches out of a size 75/11 needle or when it starts to shread the stitches. Hugs Joyce
Thank you - I get about 60-70,000 stitches out of a size 90/14 when I´m doing FSL.
Hi Sigrun, I started with a new Titanium needle at the beginning of a 70,600 stitch embroidery and I got to within 1,800 stitches of the end and had to change the needle because it started shredding the top thread. So that's 68,800 stitches and it was a pretty dense design.
I wouldn't normally know how long I use a needle but it's a fair indication to change needles if the top thread starts breaking or shredding.
I hope this helps, hugs n roses, Meg
Thank you - I get about 60-70,000 stitches out of a size 90/14 when I´m doing FSL. Now I´m using TOPSTITCH needle and will see how it goes, have you used them?
Yes Sigrun, the needle I used was a "Superior" Brand, Titanium Topstitch 90/14. The design I was doing had up to eight layers of stitches in some segments, so it lasted quite well on such a dense design. I'm sure no other type of needle would have stitched this particular design so well.
stitched this particular design so well, I didn't have one single thread break until right near the end. I intend to buy more of these needles as I really think they embroider better than any others I have used.
Mine is from "inspira TOPSTITCH 130/705 MET 90" and I´ve used it now for 50,000 stitches and are still going and stitches very well, can´t see which is front or back on this FSL I´m sewing, I have also TOPSTITCH 130 N 90/14 from SCHMETZ but haven´t try them yet.
I use the titanium too and they last forever. When the thread starts to shred or break, then I know to change needles.
I change my needle every 8 hours. If my machine starts making noise then I do it sooner. I have been doing a lot of FSL lately and I usually change my needle about every 7 hours or so it seems. Hugs, Mary
