I use 3D organizer that came with the 3D Pro packet. You can both view and organise, print thumbnails, and so on. I also file the design by the site I got them from with subfiles for the type (animals, flowers, redwork, you name it). Welcome and a flower for an interesting question.

That us certainly not a dumb question!
I store my designs by where I got/bought them from and then in files according to what they are...birds, kid designs etc. Some people also store by genre like RW, Appliqué etc as well. I use Designers Gallery Studio to view my designs and re-sort them if necessary. I like this program since it is so simple to use, I can copy files and can create a baste stitch to stabilize them in the hoop with ease... Have fun... Then it allows you to save the design WITH the baste file so you do not have to look for the right one. it's a great hobby! Remember you don't Have to have ALL the designs! lol

Here is the link for SewIconz as well as a few other programs they have. The good thing is they are all stand alone programs. Have a read - and they have a 7day trial too

You got a 30day trial?I only got a 7 day trial and for the download it was$20 US dollars.Because I live in Australia they would have charged me $10 dollars extra for postage plus the extra for having it on disc.So I thought the download was a better option.Nice programme.

I just got 4D organizer, and I love it. I am NOT a computer guru type, and it is so easy to use. It helps you find the designs so quickly. Check it out!

Everyone has mentioned some great software ideas, but where do you get them, download them, etc. We don't have much here in town, so I rely on the internet quite a bit.

First of all, welcome to the 'Cute' family, nagrom. If you are a little compulsive, you've come to the right site. We are all compulsive S.A.D.D's here (Seriously Addicted to Downloading Designs)!!!! I also arrange my designs into folders like mumra does - which doesn't necessarily mean that I can always find what I'm looking for, but, most of the time, I can. *4U

There is a program called SewIconz that I think may be free but if not is very inexpensive (less than $20) which automatically converts any embroidery design (not zipped) into an icon of the design (realistic picture) so you can see what you are looking for easily. If you haven't already done it you should create a master folder and then a series of folders inside with subfolders as necessary and keep them on your hard drive backed up to disk periodically. Makes it so much easier to download straight to the appropriate folder and keep you organized. For example C:\Embroidery\Fonts\goldfont as the place to put this free font. some suggestions would be Alphabets, boys, girls, flowers, etc. There are programs that you can purchase to do this but you can do it yourself for free. Save the money to spend on designs or thread :-)

Welcome to the site. I am fairly new also and everyone here is very helpful. I have designers gallery studio plus. With it you can also change design colors and remove parts of designs if you want to. It opens all types of files and will convert other types to the one you use. Hope this helps, there's a lot to learn in the embroidery world!

Welcome Denise! I have Studio Gallery. Allows you to add color stops and color removal too. You can pick it up on Ebay for around $100.00. My friend has 4D organizer and likes it too.
