When I was looking into these machines I was told by a reputable Singer dealer not to buy the XL-400 but to get the Singer Futura Quartet instead, they still have problems but not as many as the 400. Same machine, same 6x10 design area. And the same price.
Ok after all of your coments I decided to call my sewing machine supplier that I purchased my SE400 from. He told me NO he does not reccomend I get it. For ever 10 he sells 5 are returned. They also said most designs user likes the 5x7's more then any larger. So guess my deal is no deal. Thank you for your input.

My friend had one, she purchased new, and it quit allowing access to the screen. All the lights flashed but it wouldn't let you get to the designs. She took it to our local Singer dealer (they aren't singer any longer, but kept the name) and they wouldn't touch it. Bernina dealer delined as well. Both said she had a great boat anchor! I didn't think it worked all that well when it was working! Not a user friendly machine.
Yes i had one and it was a piece of junk, buy something different!!!
NO. I have never heard anything good about them. Heard they have a lot of tension problems. Sorry. Susan
sounds over priced to me if you can get a new one for less than $600. I'd also want to know why she's selling it. Will the seller let you take it for a test drive. go to the link below and make sure that its got all the bells & whistles that you're expecting. I did a google search & was one brand new on Amazon for $590.
Did they say why they are selling? There is not a huge price difference between this one and brand new.
I just bought one 2 weeks back it stitch like a dream i bought it from sew vec direct for 588.99 brand new
