PURISTS PLEASE DO NOT READ

cheap way to sew out on card stock.
OK. now is the time to start out sewing those wonderful redwork christmas cards.
BUT, oh dear the cost of that stitch and tear makes it a bit costly,
NO LONGER. READ ON.
Forget the expencive stuff try my way.
you are useing a 4x4 hoop and allready sewing on paper. IE cardstock.
so here is how to save a bit of money.
take a sheet of computer printing paper, yep that paper you print on,
now fold it in halftop to bottom and fold and rip along the fold.
This now gives you two pieces that will go from side to side of that 4x4 hoop.
I know it will not fit top to bottom but thats ok.
fit it into the hoop so space is equale top and bottom.
and make sure it if farly tight. put the hoop into the machine and now center your single fold card. hold the card in place and start the machine and sew out the design.
two minutes later, remove the hoop from the machine and loosen the paper.
next is to carefully tear away the copy paper along the outside stitch line the paper in the middle can stay there.
BUT. do not stop there. lets have a bit more fun
find some nice CHEAP Christmas wrapping paper and cut to A4 size and fold and cut as above for the copy paper.
follow the same instructions.
now look at what you have .
when you open the card the design is there but filled with a pretty paper.
Because the paper does not stretch in any direction you can get away with useing it without it being clamped in place all the way around. if you are doing more than one of the same design simply lay a patch of new paper over the hole and re fit

I've been doing the paper thing for awhile. But I never thought of the wrapping paper. How cool! Do you put a piece of copy paper with the wrapping paper for extra support or just wrapping paper?

I use simple card stock that i can cut and fold myself or purchase ready made blank packs used for greeting cards.
if you wish to embroider on fabric then select the aperture cards that are double fold and then place some glue around the inside of the aperture insert the fabric with onto the glue with a small amount of padding behind apature place more glue onto the inside card section and fold and press down the front of the card.
If you use craftfelt then you can ommit the padding and simply trim to within 0.5 of the aperture opening, glue center card and fold the front section down onto it. place a weight onto the card to hold it down till set.

I went to the craft shop and ask for card stock with fiber so it could be embroidered on and they thought I was crazy. you have wonderful ideas.

What a brilliant idea. Thank you for posting this good/fun project idea.

this is really a neat idea! Can you tell me why you have to have 2 (fold & cut in half)is it to make it stronger? & I'm guessing that you want the white side to face up & the pretty side to face down? Is this right? Sorry I am feeling a bit slow today & I just want to get this right. TIA Hugs Loralye

i usew just half a sheet of copy paper henc ethe fold inhalf and cut.
that gives you two from one sheet
i cut a piece of wrapping paper the same size as the card used and pop this face down under the hoop, stick it in place on the corners before putting it back to the machine,Return the hoop to the machine and then start to sew out the design.
once finished you can then remove the paper from round the outside of the stitches.
the cheaper the paper the better as it is thinner.
i hope this will help you understand thngs. annie

returning it to the machine, sew out the design and then carefully remove both papers from the outside of the stitches. this gives you a nice look to the inside of your card.

you can actually use up those needles that you have allready used for embroidery work and are not so sharp.
