I treat velvet the same as fleece.. I use WSS topping and tend to go for satin stitch designs,
I also find that the topping helps stop any fluff from the velvet go up the needle.. i just then spray with a lite mist of water and leave to dry..
I do a lot of velvet jackets for a Gymnastics club :-)

I always use a topping on velvet. The one I have found that works best for me is one that can be steamed off after I have removed all that I possibly can. Iron away super film stabilizer is heat disintegrating. ;)
Does the topping thoroughly leave NO residue on the velvet?
Thanks, Bonnie
Here is a tutorial from Embroidery Library.

I have some of the iron off stabilizer and heard that it was difficult so i have not tried it. I did stitch with a 50 wt cotton thread and it looked fabulous, I did not use any topping. Live Laugh Download Stitch!
I would like to repost this as it is important to me.
thanks Cuties!
Hi Bonn, when I use velvet I always use a WWS topping. When completed I cut off as much as I can, then I use a spray bottle of water and then you just pull it off.
Maybe someone else can help.
