This is the first I have heard of this. Thank goodness we have Cute to get our news. Heehee. Sooooooooo the "earth moved" for you Meg, hasn't moved here for some time (joke).Heehee. Seriously it would have been frightening I'm sure. Marg
So that was what it was,it was just loud thud that shook our house.Newcastle earthquake you could hear coming like a lge truck thundering down the street.
The 1994 earthquake was louder too,our house was being demolished when that one hit about 8pm & it wasn't mentioned on the news that night
WOW ..... How exciting !!! Were you stitching on your embroidery machine at the time ??
Watchout for the big waves on the river. LOL Surfing Ducks.Glad you're OK
hugs Helen
Picture this Meg. A young mother sitting on a commode in a sml Bthrm on her first visit to Ca. commode shakes, wall in front of her cracks from ceiling to floor. Didn't even take time to pull up my drawers. LOL. Mom says" oh that was just a small earthquake you will get use to them". I never did. Movd to Miss. anothr 5.0. I'm glad you are ok.Lillian
So we share an experience Lillian?
I always knew we were kindred spirits.:-) My only other earthquake jolt, I, too, was on the loo and the radio was playing "I Feel the Earth Move Under my Feet" I kid you not, I swear it is true! hugs, Meg
I know about those jolts..used to live on the B.C. coast for 30+ years! (would you believe 10 yrs in Sidney) They can be very scary. I'm glad it wasn't a "Baddie".
Hugs, Nadyne
When your not used to the jolts they are jarring but us oldies from Southern California take those in stride. It matters how close to the epicenter or fault you are and how deep or shallow the earthquake is as to how much you feel and not just the number.
Lots of earthquakes and hurricaines going on.
oh dear, if you felt it this way from a distance of 50 km., how would it be for the people that live in the specific area of an earthquake? must be scary!
I live in So California and the San Andreas fault runs deep through So Cal...I've been through more than my share...last BIG one was 1994 and it was a 7.1 that was centered about five miles from our home...we never get use to them, but we get them fairly often, but mostly they are under 5.0 and don't really cause much damage...keeping my fingers crossed! Glad all is good where you are with no damage and no injuries...
Wow! That is such a scary experience. I am so glad that you are OK. Take care.**
Earthmoving Meg....hmmmmmm maybe. Glad that there are no injuries or damage. We had 2 (maybe3) here and one of them shook me awake and cracked the header going from my bedroom into the master bath- it was terrifying and I was so happy it didn't last long
Glad to hear you are all okay. We have felt a few not something I want to feel again.
Scary thing, did it last long? Glad all is ok with you. Thank God it was so far off shore! Hugs
Scarey for sure Meganne, glad no damage...Hugs xoxoxo Glenda
Glad no damage was done. I don't think of Australia as being earthquake country, but when the house starts to shake, you figure it out pretty quick!
Wow! I take it it was your first. That could be a little unnerving. Glad no injuries or damage.
Hope everyone is o.k. In newcastle - luv Chris
It was offshore of Woy Woy Chris but was only minor. I don't think it was felt farther north than here. Didn't even rate a mention on Sydney news. We did have a 12 y.o. boy arrested for setting a fire in bushland at Wyong. Burnt out 80 hectares & closed the freeway for several hours. It's all good now so pls don't worry. hugs n love, me
the freeway for several hours. It's all good now so pls don't worry. hugs n love, me
The house filled up with smoke last night when I left the door open so the dog could use the doggy door
Yes, I hope they punish the little delinquent and not just give him a rap on the knuckles. He actually broke into a house to STEAL the accelerants so it was pre-meditated destruction.
Glad it wasn't any closer. They can be very scary! I very strange feeling at the time!
So glad to hear you are all okay and pray that there are no injuries.
glad it wasn't to destructive as they can certainly be and that everyone is safe
hugs
Michelle
I heard it on our news in Brisbane. we get more northern NSW news than I guess Sydney does. Glad there wasnt any damage. I have experianced 2 small shakes here in my lifetime it sure is a strange feeling. Hugs Joyce
I had to search the internet for information after Ray phoned & told me it WAS an earthquake. I never thought to turn on the local radio, but then I was really tired from driving to Sydney & back & just wanted to lay down & sleep.
Scary stuff, Meg, glad all is OK...LOL on Ray thinking you were moving his chair...now you can say you are as strong as an earthquake (or at least Ray thinks so!!) Hugs..Vicki
LOL!!! He was dozing in his fave chair, you know how it is when weird things cross your mind if you are snapped awake.
Earthquake Meg, nah, I think I'm more like a tornado. hahahaha!
Scarey experience.Sigh of relief for no damage!
More an anxious one as we didn't know what it was until Ray heard it on the local radio news. Funny thing was, at first I thought it was a huge gust of wind, as we have had house shaking winds here lately and when I looked out the window it was dead calm. Eeerie. LOL!!
