As I have said before this is a awesome quilt, I do have a question or two please. If you didn't zig-zag the blocks of 4 together, are they sewn together in some other way or held together by the binding strips? Did you hand or machine quilt the block? Could you explain the reason for using two different width strips on the front and back?
I apologize for all the question, quilt to go is new to me. Mom always did the traditional pieced top stretched over the back and batting in a quilt frame braced on 4 chair backs when working on. Thank you
After the blocks were machine quilted, I cut strips the same length of the blocks. The 2" is folded and the 1 1/4 is not folded. The 2" goes on the top right side of the block and the 1 1/4" goes on the bottom. The next block is joined to the bottom strip. The top is folded over the next block and hand stitched down.
WOW! This is awesome! I can't believe this is the backing! What an excellent job!

When you put the final sashing over the seams, did you hand sew them like you do for bindings or did you machine stitch them? I have never done an quilt as you go and am really interested what technique(s) you used to put the blocks together and then finish the seams with sashing...any tips and suggestions would be appreciated..also, how much "heavier or stiffer" is the quilt because you have to zig zag the blocks together and then put a sashing over the seams? Too many questions...Thanks!
The blocks are put together by a single strip of 1 1/4" on back and a 2" doubled on front. I hand stitched the strips and the binding. The blocks are not zig zagged.
I wondered if you hand stitched it! I could never have done that on my machine and have gotten the accuracy you have. You must have great stitching skills to have finished it in such a short time! I am all the more impressed knowing that you did all this work not using a machine. You are a true quilter!
Do you think you used more fabric by doing thw quilt as you go method?
I having been wanting to do one of these to incorporate my embroidery designs. Thanks it looks great. Susan
I wouldn't be surprised if it took a little more, but it was much, much easier to handle by myself.
Wow, the back is wonderful, too! That's the only way I could quilt anything this large, is quilt as you go. Could you tell me where you got the pattern? For the quilt as you go part, mostly, I could do almost any kind of block like this, but I like the way you did them in sets of 4, makes it so much easier to handle and put together. Thanks and hugs, Marji
I did not have a pattern, I made it up. The strips to put it together ia 2' folded for top and 1 1/4" for back cut same length as the block.
I knew you were going to say you made it up, I knew it!! I'm going to drown myself in the shower now...hee hee hee. Very creative.
Looks as if this is totally reversible. Both sides beautiful. Sarah.
OH WOW!! This is gorgeous! Is this a quilt as you go project?? I am so incredibly impressed! I'm a quilter, and I'm loving this!
Your quilt is absolutely beautiful, front and back. Well done.
Hugs, Lidia
This is lovely. Did you do quilt as you go method? Shirley
