Many thanks ladies, I found the button hole lever and yes it is in UP position. I tried pushing the reverse button twice as rachap suggested, not it. I hate that the computerized machines won't let you sew without fully threading and with a bobbin, when investigating things, oh well. I do not plan on using my machine for normal sewing, it's much too jerky and slow for my taste, so for now I'll not phone or return it to the mechanic. I have used the embroidery machine without problems so I'll just cross my fingers and sew away!!
Phone the guy that fixed it fast before it wrecks something ???lol hugs
Just wondering if you got your machine working? If not have you called the Brother dealer? :)

I found the manual and on page 11 shows where the buttonhole lever is located, thats the lever that makes the machine sew backwards (I read this somewhere) make sure it is up all the way... anyhow let us know how it went please.
I don't have a Brother but on my viking there is a buttton to push when you want to backstitch . If you push it twice it will sew backwards. I accidentally did this and thought I had really done something bad so (of couse as a last resort )I got my manual out and read this is what it is supposed to do. A nice feature once you have discovered it!! Maybe something like this is what your machine is doing.
I have tried pushing, holding, checking the machine computer settings for this but no help! Thanks you anyway.
Hope what loosie says works! Please let us know, the last thing I knew that only went backwards was my mother's Dodge Dart!
There is a plastic arm that you pull down for sewing button holes push it back up and it should sew forwards, my machine warns me when its down I have a Brother SE-400 but I think its the same for all... Good luck
If that isn't the case the button to back stitch could be stuck, I haven't heard of this happening but there is always a first time...
