Hi cuties, My number 1 passion is crochet and even though I spend my days with machine embroidery once I sit in the evenings I pick up my crochet. I HATE to sit idel in front of the tv so back in the 70's I began crocheting.

I do not like the thin no. 10 thread so I use the DMC Petra no. 5 thread and lately I have to order it from the UK so I get 10 balls at a time, either here in Jeddah or to my sisters in Florida. And the perfectionest that I am, I will tear out rows of stitches to get the pattern to lay flat and because I use the thicker thread this happens
often as the patterns I use are for the thinner thread.
I love using symbol patterns that are available in Europe and Asia, they are so much easier to follow than rows of text.
After years of giving away my work I started keeping pictures, here are some of my work.
Huggs Dolly

1- I stoped cross stitching and was trying to use up all those threads
2- made for my son's first home when he married
3- turned out really nice
4- the center pink stitches on this are overlaped and really look good
5- the center is done first then the outer edges, nice
6- squares together
7- something different, done by rows of pineapples
8- several colors and flowers
9- very pretty effect
10- a table cloth for my GD when she marries
11- pretty pattern
12- newly finished for a dinning room table
13- I'm into ovals now, another newly finished one
14- A doily I made for my mother in 1991 without a pattern and I'm going nuts trying to do it again LOL

Your crocheting is stunning - especially the pineapple and the ovals. #13 is a wonderful pattern, too. This reminds me of my grandmother's work, of which none of them - did I receive. Great job and continue to do this with the pictures - it is a great way to save the history of your work.

These are beautiful! The pineapple ones are my favorite I too crochet; have been making the name dollies. when I started making them almost gave up; couldn't get them to work out right. A friend shared her pattern with me and I can make them by it. it is a letter at a time. Hugs!

Your work is really lovely. I also have done some crocheting in my time. Years ago I worked with the fine cottons but in later years have only used the thicker threads. My eye sight is not the best these days, so do very little crocheting. Have been working on a rug for the past 20 years or so. Only have to do the edge up one side and it will be finished. It is done in 8ply wool. I tell people it is to be used when I go onto the old folks home. It covers a double bed. Hugs Shirley

Your work is just Lovely.
I do love #10 for its fine quality and 2 strands will give a sportish gauge. I made wedding boxes with the top in 10 thread and beaded for my sister- lot of work and a baby Irish crochet baptismal gown with 3d crochet roses and leaves in US 10.
I have coned 5/2 cotton and 3/2 cotton but havent used it for crochet yet.

These are really lovely. I started about 25 years ago crocheting what was to be a doilly, then it grew to a tray cloth, then table cloth and it is now being made into a bedspread. I used to take my crocheting everywhere in my handbag especially when I was on plane journeys, it really relaxed me; but since 9/11 and sharp objects (crochet hook) not being allowed this avenue of relaxation has now stopped. I too cannot sit in front of the tv without having something else to do, it seems such a waste of time. I have crocheted, cross stitched, knitted and have just finished making a lace shawl in black silk. Took me three years. Women just have to multi-task!!

WOW, 25 years making the project, do they still have the same thread?? I think they allow crochet and knitting needles now, too many have complained that a pensil will do more damage!!
Thanks for the reply

maltamade by maltamade 15 Oct 2012

I bought a box of threads many years ago and have about 6 left. The only problem is that a certin piece of pattern has turned yellow so I think if it will not wash out I will have to dye it. Anyway it will have to wait until I finish it and give it a wash. Your samples are really beautiful and I really like the ones that are coloured. Well done.
