recently saw a quilt which included a couple of fairly large cross-stitch blocks. She had quilted in the ditch, but that meant the block sort of billowed out. I don't think it would have taken away from the cross-stitch if it had been quilted over. The quilt would have looked better in my opinion. However if the blocks were quite small, it may have been okay to just stitch around them.
Dear Krystyna,
Personally I think using a solid fabric would make the cross stitch stand out more. If it was on a floral, spot, stripe etc. it would get lost.
I would stitch in the ditch (seam) or even close to the outside of the design if it is possible. I've done some Santa designs from Becky J's site and once I put them together I will be stitching them in the ditch. Love and blessings Chris
It would help if you put a link to the designs so we could see what you are talking about...
I don't believe I would quilt through the cross stitch design. Stitch in the ditch would be a good choice. You could quilt around the design. I don't think I would use the design to stitch through all layers of the quilt unless it is just an outline type of design. I don't understand about limited to solids. You could stitch the designs out on a light patterned fabric- something that would not distract from the cross stitch design.
