Well no embroidery for me this weekend. Yesterday and until noon today my sister and I had our annual meat pie making weekend. We, DH'S included, made 95 (not kidding) meat pies.

I am exhausted and have aches and pains everywhere.
I'll look on the bright side though, I don't have to make supper, GUESS WHAT WE ARE HAVING LOL.
hugs

I'm not sure if I could eat one after making them all day long. That was a lot this year. Do you also sell some of them? I grew up with the mincemeat pies where there is meat and dried fruit. They are a heavy pie like yours and I can only eat a small slice.

Wow Michelle! Like the others I am exhausted just from reading about that big amount of pies. When I was once in England I loved their pork pies. Here in Germany it not so familiar we have more the sweet pies ;o)
Greetings, Bettina

Your meat pies sound great. With making that many I understand why you only do it once a year - but why do you do it all at once instead of some here and there? What all do you put in your meat pies? What kind of meat? Do you every share your recipes? Your pie making sounds like us when the garden is ready - all day putting up whatever we can. Glad you are done until next year so all you have to do is enjoy the eating.

Hi Mylinda,
We only make them once a year because it goes with the season (hunting) and mostly because they have always been part of our families christmas meals tradition. The pies are a combination of pork, deer, moose, partridge,
(this year duck and geese were added) and they are all meat. We have never shared our recipe but the pressure is on from many of our friends who would love to make their own and I am thinking if I give them the recipes and
can keep more pies for myself LOL.

Now I understand. I see why you do it once a year. I wonder if this is what we call mincemeat? Traditions are great. When my in-laws were alive all the kids & g-kids would go up for the day and pick and put up corn for the year. That has provided wonderful memories for everyone. Thank you Michelle for letting us share in your family traditions.

I want some! What is in a meat pie, have you ever posted a recipe? What do you store all those pies in? Are they big pies or little 1 serving pies? Oh you had to make me hungry for really good food.

Hi Christine,
No I have never posted my recipe, this is a tradition in my family that goes back probably 100 years or more. Over the years some have made slight changes but I still make them as my mom and grandma did. The pies are 9 inch and made from a mixture of different meats.
They are delicious. If I do say so myself.

Michelle are theswe what my hubby calls pasties. The Shriners make a lot of them and sell them to make money for the children's hospital./Lillian

Always practical for unexpected company or an off day when you just don't feel like being in the kitchen (would rather be in the sewing room LOL).
