Cherifa is a little girl I have sponsored ever since she was four years old; she lives in Niger, in North Africa, and it will soon be her eighth birthday. Sponsors are asked not to send expensive gifts and if we do want to send a gift it must be small enough to fit in the envelope along with her birthday card. So, I made her this little purse and am also going to put some hair ribbons in it for her. I chose the black background to make the colours stand out, and it's lined with cotton material printed with little flowers and fastened with a shiny black button (which you can hardly see on the photo!) It cost virtually nothing but my time but I think it fits the bill and I hope she'll like it. Love Dianne x x x

This is precious Dianne... Cherifa will adore this purse!!! Are the stitches in the border decorative stitches in your machine??? How do you line them up so nicely? Bless you for doing something so sweet for this little girl.

No, the border is part of the design - I drew and digitised them along with the flowers etc, they're just rows of triangles filled with horizontal stitches in the side rows and vertical stitches in the top and bottom rows.

I was sponsoring two girls but gave one up cuz of expenses... I still have my girl in Mexico (where my heart is too). I wonder if I could send something to her? They ask only small stuff like paper and cards.. This should be thing/small enough?! Thank you for great idea. Lovely job too ;) *4U ><>

I sponsor two girls, one in Myanmar who I'm very worried about because of the situation after the cyclone there - little aid is getting in and no news is getting out so I have no idea if she's OK or not; Cherifa is in north Africa and communications with her are better (I write to her in French, which I studied at school). I don't know who you sponsor through, we are asked that if we do send gifts they must be inexpensive and small enough to fit in an envelope, and this little purse is just over 3" x 4" and fits the bill easily.

I think she will LOVE this! And adding the hair ribbons...just a really neat little surprise, too! Would'nt you love to be a little birdie, watching her as she opens up this package! A+ to you...and a flower, of course!

I have been out and bought the hair ribbons : I chose a pretty pale lilac gingham, a lovely rose pink velvet and a deep red satin with a gold edging. There was so much to choose from but I remembered the sort of thing my daughter would have chosen at her age! I will be posting them off on Tuesday (tomorrow's Sunday, and we have a Bank Holiday on Monday so the post office won't be open till Tuesday.) Love Dianne x x x

Thank you all. I've put the design file to download on my website, www. diannescraftbox.bravehost.com, with a blank ellipse where you can add any initial, name etc. I'm also going to adapt it to make myself mobile phone case! Love
