I have seen some of the lovely quilted placemats that cuties have made and I have a couple of questions. If you quilt first before embroidery,do you just do the top layer and the batting,or do you emb. through the entire "quilt sandwich"? If you emb. through the entire "sandwich" do you hoop the entire quilted piece and what sort of stabilizer would you use? Lastly, do you back this again to make the placemat reversible,or do you leave it as is?

I love the look of these but am in a bit of a quandry as to how it is done. Thanks so much.

well you can always buy pre-quilted fabric. I quilt the batting & the top & then I embroidery it & then I add the backing fabric & do a bit of quilting sew that the layers will stay together & wash well Then I add the binding. I hope this helps. If I have pre-quilted fabric I do the same add the embroidery & then the back & maybe echo quilt around the design & then do the binding. Sometimes I will just layer & stitch & flip without a binding too. ~Hugs Loralye~

If you want them to be embroidered reversable you could do 2 the same as the tops & sew without adding the binding just layer stitch & turn rightsides back out & stich remaining spot by hand.
