My machine has a special bobbin case that is set for a tighter lower tension. Also helps to lower the top tension.

You would think with a stand alone embroidery machine it wouldn't need adjusting lol Seems ok again now.
That is what is confusing. My bobbin case has its own tension control so it shouldn't matter how loosely the thread is wound on the bobbin. I could see that it would be a problem if the thread was wound too tightly.
I had the problin. took the bobbin out, and but it right back in . it worked for me
So annoying as by that stage the design is ruined and you have to start again :-( It goes ok for ages then somehow doesn't like the bobbin.
I had the problem once where the thread was wound loosely on a portion of the bobbin. I must have been fooling around with the machine or something when I was winding it. But it was just with one bobbin. Try winding a new bobbin making sure it is wound properly. If you still have problems, then you know for sure if it is how the bobbin is wound issue. I assume you cleaned out the bobbin area of the machine and got rid of any loose threads hiding there.
It's definitely the bobbin itself as you can see it's wound loosely, but was fine when it went into the machine, it's as though it wound ok, then loose, then ok, without being touched lol
I use plastic-sided prewounds because of the difficulty I had in obtaining the perfectly wound bobbin. It seems that the lighter weight bobbin thread needs special attention during winding and I was incapable of finding the "special" touch. I also purchased a second bobbin case and adjusted it specifically to the prewounds.
I have prewounds (card though not plastic) for my other machine and they run well on that. May think of another bobbin case as well. Thanks.
