Hi ladies! Thread question.

My local dealer only sells Metter (which are nearly 3x more than the other kinds), Brother and Floriani threads. I get a great discount from him and trust him (mostly). I love Floriani thread but my Janome refuses to stitch with it and I've tried everything - including setting the thread up about 10 feet away to give it more time to unwind before it gets there. I slowed the machine down as much as it would slow and it still continually breaks.
That being said - I love the rayon sheen that Floriani has and according to him they are the only manufacturer that has it. So….. what other types of threads do I have available to me that will stitch up shiny and pretty like the floriani threads do?

They can't be the only ones with shiny-looking thread - right? The brother thread stitches out perfect (it just has that dull look to it) and I bought metter today, I just haven't tried it yet.

My persnickety machine is a Janome MC10000 purchased from the dealer with one previous driver :) Now that I have it working with Brother thread - I love it. I just have to figure out how to get the shiny stuff to stitch on it!!

Thanks for the help.

Metler isocord and mederia are some other nice threads to try. What does you book recommend. As long as you use good thread form germany things should work OK. Suzanne

I have the Janome MC11000SE and it will handle any thread I use on it. I love the sheen of Robison Anton rayon thread and that is mostly what I use. The Metro poly has a wonderful sheen and I use that when I want to use poly. I have never tried the Floriani . Good luck in finding a new favorite thread. Hugs..Carol

If all else fails read the manual after you ask a cutie. The dial on top is the pressure dial for the foot. If I remember rightly the tension icon is on the screen. It looks like a chain link. try lowering it a bit it will go back to default at the next design though. You will still have 8 fingers after trying it. ;)

I'm looking for the manuals now. Whatever that knob is... it seemed to work. At least to finish out that design. I'm going to start fresh in the am and see if it was just dumb luck. I don't want to ruin my happy dance for the night. And I'll be lucky if I still have 8 fingers after some of the stories I've read on here!! For those of us that still have 10 - its just a matter of time :)

Oh no. I don't have a clue. He told me never to touch the tension! I figured my fingers would fall off or the machine would never work again!!!! Is this a trial and error thing? I lower it, try it, wait for it to break, lower it some more? Should I leave the speed down as well or can I crank it back up?

I think I am your new best friend. I lowered the dial (from 3 to 2) on the top of the machine (I am hoping this is the tension) and I started stitching. A couple minutes later I upped the speed to 600. A couple minutes after that I upped it back up to 800 and walked away with 9 minutes of stitching left. It is beautiful! No broken thread!! I am in sheer amazement. I have been fussing with this thing since LAST December and Floriani thread. If only I had asked sooner.
Maybe 1 design is a little too soon to throw a party, but it worked. THANK YOU!!! Yes I'm yelling. Sorry. I'm just so happy!! Its happy yelling! :)

OK, the dial on top, if like my 11000SE is 2 for embroidery and 3 for regular sewing. So, have you maybe been embroidering with the dial set on 3 instead of 2? Just a thought but glad you're doing the happy yelling. Hugs..Carol

Yes totally. I have NEVER actually tried to really sew with the machine and of course why would I READ the manual. He told me not to touch that knob so I never did! Now that I know I can embroider with it ... maybe I'll learn to use that pesky ruffler foot that came with it!
