Does anyone know if Sewgirl.com is a legitimate site? I got an email addressing me by first and last name, stating that I had signed up Dec. 6th, and they were changing their name to InspirePoint.com. I've never heard of either one of these sites and know nothing about them. Have you?

Thanks for your time.

Here's a website that may help you all. The link is for the page where you can see who is sending you e-mail. If you want a really thorough report, you have to pay for it. There are also links on this page where you can look up web addresses, see where the site is, and which other sites are also located at that address. That way, you make your choice if you want to go there or not. Personally, to me, when I looked it up, this Sewgirl site looked like it's owned by someone pretty computer savvy, and has a bunch of French name sites at that address, also one about Japanese gambling. Now understand, this could be a server, and the owner is hosting sites. InspirePoint is not listed. When I looked that up, it was in a totally different location, and the owner was different. Perhaps the site name was sold to someone else.

The internet is not a safe place. Every single time you put your e-mail address out there in a registration form, it could be sold, or just sucked out of the website by hackers. Every time you put an e-mail address in the Cute Community, ANYONE on the internet can come along and gather up those addresses to make a mailing list. Anytime you "forward" all those silly e-mails y'all are sending around without deleting all the header information, someone who gets it down the line can get your address and all the addresses of the people who came before you. Even if you delete all the information, if the person you send it to doesn't, your information goes to everyone else down the line regardless. There are many many easy ways for people to get your information, it's not rocket science. The internet is NOT a safe place. Take steps to ensure your own safety, and the first one is to act like everything you type is available as if you lived in a glass house; because everything here is transparent to someone, and usually someone unscrupulous, because honest people can't be bothered. Please be careful, and keep yourselves safe. Hugs, Marji

There is another way to trace emails, which I have started using. It is a tool with Gmail that allows you to add a note or site name to the end of the address string before the .com or what ever it is, which will be used if that address is borrowed, sold or what ever. But this was with my newsletter email address and I didn't use my email address.
You are right. The internet is NOT a safe place. It feels like it because we are logged in with passwords and in our own home or a place that feels safe.
Thank you for the site. I've never heard of that, but will keep that in mind if I start getting more of these.

I don;t know any of these sites. Just do as Meganne suggested. That is what I would do as well.

Never heard of them ! This is happening to me as well - someone, somewhere is selling lists of our emails. It could be any website that we have logged into - we cannot blame anyone simply because we will never know who it is. Creepy thought though.

I agree with Meganne, I never open anything I don't recognize

So true, but when they have your name in the address line, it is a little disturbing!

Delete the email then delete it from the deleted files.
My advice, If you don't recognise who an email is from and there is nothing in the subject line to warrant you trusting it, don't trust it!
Hugs n roses, Meg

Thank you. Kinda freaky that they have my name, but I even checked both of my computers, and there was no evidence of having ever visited the site. I just wondered if anyone else had encountered this site.
