I had windows 7 and my Bernina artista would not work with it, so I had XP reinstalled on my laptop and everything went back to normal. Hope you get yours sorted out, it's so frustrating and I feel for you. Hugs.

Mary,
I feel for you. I just returned a laptop with Windows 8 but it was because it was defective.
My computer tech. told me that Windows 8 is not much more than 7 but with a new face and much harder to navigate.
I am going to get a new desk top with Windows 7 and it has an XP mode.
I didn't like Windows 8 at all and neither does my tech. You can downgrade it to Windows 7.

Windows7 and windows 8 have a built in Unzip. Right click on zip file name then click Extract and choose directory and folder for extracted files.

Mary51--you cannot find your program, 7zip? Do you have a folder on your DOCUMENTS page? Downloads will be in that and you have to open it to "install" or work with your other downloads from there. But I should think that you could double click on a zip to open it....have you tried that?

I upgraded 2 of my computers to Widows 8 around Christmas. I'm lucky I know a college student who can help me. This is his contact info.

http://WWW.scscomputing509@gmail.com. I have been satisfied with the help and know I can call him if I have troubles later on.

Mary I found this tutorial and thought it may help get you started with Windows 8, I hope it isn't too complicated for you.
I think the information to be found at the second link will probably be more helpful to you.
Make sure you save it to your bookmarks/favorites
I do hope this helps, if not, please let me know and I will study all the info and find answers for you.

The third link is to the latest version of 7-zip, which is supposed to run on Windows 8.
DON'T CLICK on any of the SCAN things,
just click on the first green DOWNLOAD button you see at the top left side of the page.
This should at least solve your zip file problems.
hugs n blessings, Meg

If you are trying to unzip something, see the link. Windows has its own program to zip and un-zip files/folders.
What program are you trying to use to open the unzipped files? I will do what I can to help.

from what I understand ( I only have windows 7) there is a button on there to guide & answer questions, you may have to wait for the answers but I believe you will get them. Perhaps your sewing dealer will be able to help you? worth a try. the best of luck to you Mary.I think Chris has some good links here. I'm sure you will be telling some other cuties how to work theirs before long. Hugs Loralye

Sometimes computers die and have to be replaced so the following won't help in that case, but my computer guru (who sells computers) told me to stay with the aging XP as long as I can because he feared the new Microsoft Windows will not be compatable with my sewing programs. Apprears he was right.

Is't it frustrating. My old XP is in rough shape and still working thank goodness. My husband bought me a brand new laptop Windows 2007 with a triple core processor but I still use my old faithful. I have finally figured out the 07 but it took a while. Good luck, Susan

SEWICONZ also works with Windows8. Steve the man who owns this company is wonderful and will help you along the way. Love Chris

P.S. Meganne put me onto this company and I use it all the time.

I'm afraid you might not hear from Meg till later today we are expecting over 40C degrees here in Newcastle today - total fireban for the whole State of New South Wales and besides - Meg doesn't get up till about mid-day! He he he!

Oh, Mary, I'm so sorry, but I'm still running Windows XP, and wouldn't get Windows 8 if you paid me!! I'll pray for Meganne to come along, or someone else with newer knowledge than mine. Hugs, Marji

Jerrilyn, don't accuse me of being a computer whiz, hee hee hee. My knowledge is far too outdated. I think Windows 8 is for people who want to play with their computer, not work with it. Old stuff I know, new stuff I won't learn. Basically, I still speak DOS, hee hee hee. Hugs, Marji
