I have sewing kits everywhere throughout the house as I never know when I might need to fix something. I have often tried to buy a chatelaine to hang from my waist, like in olden times, but they are always way above my Ebay budget.
I have kept an emergency travel sewing kit in my handbag ever since I had a blind (double) date when I was 15.
I was wearing a below the knee, straight, tight, skirt, as was popular back then, but totally inappropriate as it turned out, as the four of us went to the beach where we started playing a combination of volley ball and soccer.
Did you guess what happened?
The side seam in my skirt split open, from waist to hem, and I was mortified!
Mini skirts hadn't even come in then so having such an accident (especially in front of gorgeous guy I'd never met before) was morally outrageous!!!
Luckily the young man kept a little emergency kit in the glove box, so I sat in the car, with blankets held up at the windows (outside) to protect my modesty, and hastily repaired my poorly made skirt.
Needless to say I never go anywhere without a tiny basic sewing kit!
Needles, threads, foldup scissors, buttons & needle threader.
Hugs n roses, Meg
I just checked my kit, it also contains a band-aid, emery board, safety pins and two press studs. I've never opened this one to see what else was in it, no skirt splitting activities, or even invitations, these days. LOLOL!!!
I just read Awesome1's comment and thought perhaps a Dammit doll wouldn't go astray!???? LOL!!!!
As with all the rest of good things , I would add a marker/pencil and paper, so i could make a list of things I need to remember to get.
Besides the usual, I would add my super strong reading glasses. I use power 250 to read but 350 for sewing and handwork
I had a little sewing kit in my desk at work. It had dental floss, needles, black and white thread, a measuring tape and different size safety pins. I must say it came in handy on more than one occasion, but my most memorable one was when my boss was talking to the gal beside me and he had his arse end in my line of vision. He bent over to pick something up and I noticed the seam to his pants had come apart and I could see his tidie whities. I had to tell him as he was going out to an important meeting, so he took his pants off in his office and I quickly did a mending job. He reminded me of it at my retirement dinner....
That's funny Gerry. I bet he was thankful not to make a 'show' of himself. Jan
Hi Jan: I wish I had a camera at the time. We all had a good laugh. He was a great boss with a super sense of humour.
If u make it big enough u could fit your sewing machine in it lol just had to say that:):) hugs
I have a travel kit with tiny scissors, basic thread colors, needle, thimble, safety pins, buttons, and a tape measure. Of course I only need it when I don't have it.
I have made a 'grab and go bag' which has a zip and handles but open out flat. Inside there are places for the threads, pins, pencils etc and room for small projects. Something like this would be okay as an emergency kit.
There's a sewing kit project at husqvarna this month you may be interested in looking at.
Some 'cuss' words for when I make total mess-ups of my project!
I have these in my sewing area: Q-tips (cotton swabs), alcohol, pill bottle for broken needles, magnifying glass, needle nose pliers, flashlight, extra bobbin case and lots of needles, and it wouldn't be first aid without the Band-Aids for all those needle pokes. lol
