What type of water soluble stabilizer are you using?

Is it the Film type or the Fibrous type?

Are the holes happening in different spots of the design or just around the edges?

There are 2 kinds of water soluble stabilizer that work best for FSL embroidery.

You can use the heavy weight Film type of water soluble such as Ultra Solvy or Badgemaster.

Or you can use the Fibrous type of water soluble such as Vilene water soluble, or Aqua Magic, or Wash Away, or Wet N Gone.

For FSL embroidery use a size 75/11 or 80/12 sharp point embroidery needle.

Use the same 40 weight embroidery thread as top thread and bobbin thread.

Use 1 or 2 layers of water soluble stabilizer stabilizer depending on how many stitches there are in the lace design.

Most people use 2 layers for all FSL embroidery.

If you can slow your machine speed down just abit when stitching the FSL designs.

It could be that your water soluble stabilizer is moving or being pulled into the middle of your hoop from all the needle movments when stitching the design.

The movement of the stabilizer can cause your satin stitches on the outside of the design to not lin up to the rest of the design and that causes gaps or holes.

To solve this problem you can use strips of Shelf Liner adhered to the bottom of your inner hoop with Wonder Tape which is a 2 sided, water soluble tape.

Here is a link the at shows how to put the Shelf liner strips and tape on your hoop.

Click each picture for a close up look of each picture.

The strips of the Shelf Liner hold the water soluble stabilizer tight in the hoop and the stabilizer will not be pulled into the middle while stitching.

I use this and leave it on all my hoops as it holds all types of fabric especially light weight or slippery fabrics and any kind of stabilizer tight in the hoop.

If you can let us know the number of the design you are trying to stitch out so we can find it in the DBC section. This will give us a better idea of what you are stitching and what could be the problem.

Do hundreds of FSL designs. Always use a double layer of the wss that looks like interfacing, not the plastic looking one. Always use the same thread in the bobbin as on the top. (Unless I'm doing an embroidery on FSL background, then I switch to bobbin thread just for the embroidery part, as in the image) Also, I never resize from the original as it always messes up. Here are two more places to obtain well digitized FSL designs. Never have a problem with any of their stuff.

If you are having a lot of trouble try putting a tayer of organza or tulle in between the stabilizer. At least it will hold you designs together. hope it helps! Suzanne

I have had this problem, I keep all the smaller bits of wss, and use two layers with extra bits in midlle, that Badgmaster wss seems very popular but not tryed it yet,may b e that is why I have problems. good luck.

You asked by DBC was and if we had a link. DBC is designs by cuties. You don't need a link just click on the tab at the top of the page. Do you have the design ID number for the butterfly so we know we have the same one that you were working on.

Lucy are you using 2 layers of wss..I do..I really like to use organza on top of that, when fsl designs don't seem to catch where they should. and yes $1 designs are a bit light on in stitches. Can you show us the mistake or let us know the design, we could shed more light by telling us more about the design...

I find with FSL you get what you pay for, $1 designs never seem to stich out very well, not worth the time and heart ake. Dragonflyer has given you good advice. Maybe you can ask the cute family who's designs they have had the best results with. Take heart, hugs.

It might help if you could tell us about the design and where it is from...what I would suggest is that you download a free FSL design from DBC...one that you know has been sewn out by several Cuties without a problem...and give that a try...as far as I know the WSS stabilizer should be taught..just like any other stabilizer...what kind of WSS are you using...that could also be a problem...how heavy is your WSS stabilizer...if your FSL design is really dense, you may need two layers of WSS to sew out...give us more information about your design and you stabilizer...
