Hi if its the Galaxie 2000 series then it doesnot link to a computer. There are a number of designs embedded into it. Designs can be put in the machine via a Brother memory card. It is a great machine and one that I have used many times. Other hoops are available but off the top of my head I cant remember as its a few years since I used the machines. If you want more specific answers please ask as I can contact the owner (at my end) and find out. Tell her she has a great machine and to have fun with it
Thanks so much for all your help , I havent see her machine , she came to buy batting from me yesterday and said ,I think I can do embroidery with my machine ,,,I asked her to give me some info and I will what I can to help her on her way ,she said she didnt think she had any cards ,but she did have a large box of things that came with the machine , she had never opened,I have told her to come to out next embroidery day and our group should be able to help

I'm pretty sure the machine doesn 't connect to computer, but she can download designs and transfer to a memory card via PE Basic (under $100 now at Allbrands or Walmart)... or with a Magic Box, Ultimate Box, and 1 or 2 other branded converters. Of course, any Brother P E software will write her .pes format to the card, and if she wants to spend $$$, most of the Bro software will allow digitizing. And the model is the Galaxie--there are at least 3 of them. I did find the following description:
Computerised Touch Screen
Built in Carry Handle
Free Arm
Top Loading Bobbin
Automatic Thread Cutter
Memory Function
Mirror Image
Reverse Stitches
Needle Up / Needle Down
Auto Lock Stitch
180mm x 130mm Embroidery Area
Large Instructional Touch Screen Display
On-screen Editing and Design Creation
Over 900 Built-in Sewing Stitches
My "Custom Stitch" Feature
Automatic Bobbin Winder

according to what I find it does take pes need a ped basic card to transfer designs from web, will take preloaded cards too..
I think all brothers take pes format well mine does anyways .Other then that i would try googleing it and see what they say hugs carolyn
