some terrific ideas sew far, my 2 cents worth: cut strips of scrap fabric into the same width & sew together to make very long strips you need 3 very long ones. then fold in half & sew a straight line & then braid them together & then sew it all into an oval shape & you will have a awesome rug! good luck, hugs Loralye & don't forget the slip proof shelf liner that you can buy at the dollar store! This way you can make it whatever color you want it to be! if you made it with fleece it would be soft on your feet by slippery. the picture is a braided rug made with thick yarn a wool type & it has been sewn together with a zigzag stitch using invisable thread, you can use jersy from old tshirts too not much sewing there as jersey does not fray

Just remember to make it slip proof; you could use a roll of non-slip shelf liner like we use for our embroidery hoops. Just place it under the mat separately, since you cant put it in the washing machine.....

Hi! If you're anything like me, you will have lots of fabric offcuts. Cut them into strips about 10-15cm long and about 3-5cm wide with pinking shears. Fold the strips in half and sew them onto a piece of thick calico the size you want. Sew them on overlapping slightly and in straight lines. This makes a shaggy rug that looks great! You can make the strips longer or shorter depending on how shaggy you want the rug. You can use old towels/ T-shirts etc instead of the fabric offcuts :)

Great ideas so far. I have even seen rugs woven from plastic bags, like the ones you get at the stores. Hugs. Nan W

One woman used cut jup jeans shirts and wove them together, different shades of shirts gave a nice pattern. Sorry I don't have the picture!! Good Luck

Use some of the favorite colors in your stash to crochet a rag rug?
I've also seen crochet rugs made from bread bags (I promise); two advantages, free materials and waterproof. They don't look like plastic when finished! Good luck.

YOU COULD USE AN OLD TOWEL FOR THE BASE AND FABRIC ON TOP. CROCHET ONE. MAKE A RAG RUG OUT OF OLD CLOTHES. SOME CUT OUT PLASTIC BAGS AND CROCHET THEM. WHATEVER YOU DO GET SOME SLIP RESISTANT STUFF FOR THE BOTTOM OR HAVE SEEN CLEAR SILICONE DOTS PUT ON THE UNDERSIDE. YOU JUST HAVE TO WAIT A GOOD DAY OR SO FOR THE SILICONE TO DRY BUT MAY BE CHEAPER THAN THE READY MADE SLIP RESISTANT STUFF.
