I am thinking of buying digitizing software but I am stuck between Masterworks and Pfaffs 5D suite. Does anyone have experience with these brands and could telll me which is better for a beginner. Do you have either of these and are they easy to use or do you know anything negative about either one? Pros and cons on either would be appreciated. Thanks!

You do know that you do NOT have to purchase the software that "goes with" your machine? I saw your comment below to Chris Pennifold, and it sounded like your dealer was recommending that you purchase both softwares? You don't need more than one digitizing software if it's a good one, and it can save in the format your machine takes. I purchased the Janome Digitizer Pro with my Janome 300E about 7 years ago, because the dealer made me a supremely good deal on both. She also has software classes, regularly and free for her customers. Janome products will not save the ART format, Bernina products will not do the JEF format, because both softwares are written by the same company, and the sewing machine manufacturers wanted exclusivity. If you're a beginner, and don't have $2000 to spend on software, you might really consider Embird. Seems to be lots and lots of support and on line lessons for it, and it's not as expensive, and you can purchase only the modules you need or want and can add others later. There's also a 30 day free trial, I believe. You can't actually save anything to sew out, but you can play with the program to see if you can even use it. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here. Be a bit wary of a dealer trying to sell 2 different software brands to you, it's not necessary, and you don't need the same brand as your machine. Please do a lot of checking before you put down a bunch of money, because there's more to digitizing than running software, too. You have to know about pathing, push-pull compensation, underlay, lots of things besides running software. There is no such thing as "click and digitize" with one button, auto-digitizing turns out more nightmare designs than good ones. Make sure you have support, lessons, something, or you will be disappointed. Hugs, Marji

I have artista V6 it is a fantastic program, but it is expensive and has a huge learning curve. No matter what software it is important to get training and support. I have been determined to learn to digitize and am mainly self taught. I signed up for the generic classes at rosecottage.com they are called digi challenge. You have to apply the lesson to your software. When I get back to the US I will also sign up for the classes at schoolofdigitizing.com they have monthly lessons that look like they would be useful. Also I recommend joining an embroidery group if you can find one in your area. There are 5-6 ladies in my area and we try to meet and share ideas. Hope that helps you.

Welcome to Cute...I do not have either of these...I have Janome Pro MB3 and Palette 9...but, what I can recommend is...make sure whatever program you purchase that you can find really good support for it to help you learn it...I know lots of Cuties here swear by Embird Studio...and there is a lot of support for it...and it doesn't need a dongle or a box...If I had it to do again, I would go with Embird!

Thanks for the welcome! One store recommended to me to buy the Masterworks and then the 5D that you have since I have a Babylock and a Pfaff machine.
