So glad you got things working. I am surprised that there is a need for winrar. I use 7zip and it does not matter what kind of compression it is it will do both. It is great for multiple extractions at a time.
Thank you. I am glad I finally found something that I can use. I did try 7 zip, but couldn't seem to figure it out. Maybe I didn't do something right.
Go to the cnet link I gave, and you can read all the reviews for various free unzipping programs.
As they say of themselves-
CNET is a collective of the tech-savvy and tech-obsessed. They are all about computers, tech gear, and programs to use.
7zip was reccommended to me, here, on a discussion years ago. It's only about 4mb and is sooo easy to use, and can be uninstalled easily from the add/remove page if you don't like it.

I use RAR File Open Knife..it is free. It is a black triangle on your docs page and you just drag the zip to it and a knife appears unzipping the file. Very easy to use.
Thank you, another Cutie helped me with the steps, so I have it all set up now.

Hi Jerri, I'm at Meg's and she told me to write to you and tell you that you are better off using WINRAR! Love Chris
Thanks Chris: Give her a big ol hug from me. I just found Winrar more work to unzip designs than whatever I have now. Maybe its becauise its new, but I am a creature of habit and don't really like changes. I just want to keep what ever program I have now (wish I knew what it was) and have Winrar there, if I want to unzip a rar file.
Hugs to you too Chris. Have a wonderful time with Meg, hope to hear from her soon. I miss her.
Jerri, follow jofrog2000 advice. If you need help, PM me and I will walk you through stuff.
My computer runs with XP, and I unzip using whatever program it is that xp has. Either extract all if I want the loose ones in a folder, or when I click to get into the zip, I drag out what I want to another folder.
Then I found rar files. From cnet, I dl 7zip, which will open zip files and rar files. (both being just compressed files.) I highlight a file by right clicking, and 7zip is there in the menu. It actually works faster than computer extracting. And I can open multiple files at the same time.
Jo
Hi Jo: Thank you for your help. I just don't know what I am doing, and don't want to get into a problem and not be able to get out of it. I did that the other day and changed all my programs to something called "LNK" files. I finally did a restore and got everything back.
I have Windows 7 and like you I just save the designs, then unzip them and take what I want and put into folders, but I don't know what the program is that unzips them.
I just want to keep things as they are, but have something to unzip rar files when I want to.
Hugs Jerri
Go to START, click on ALL PROGRAMS, click on DEFAULT PROGRAMS. There, you can associate a particular type of file to the program you want to automatically open those file extensions. I have .zip files set to be opened with ZIPGENIUS (free online at Cnet.com). If I want to use another program to open it, I can right click on the file and choose to open it with winrar.
HIH, Jacque
Hi Jacque: Thank you for the info, but this is my problem, I don't know which program to choose to always open the files in. When I download a zip file, it shows as a file folder with a zipper down it.
Hugs Jerri
I had the same problem. I uninstalled the winrar and then winzip would work and all the files were okay. But, I still have some files that I need the winrar for, so I'd appreciate it if someone has the answer for this. Thanks
Thanks Twee. I just uninstalled winrar, and everything is back to what it used to be. Like you would like to have it available for any rar designs only and not for everything. Hopefully someone will come along with answers. Glad I am not alone.
Hugs Jerri
