Tutorial Bookcover.

As requested.
Step1 - make a patter of the cover by measuring and drawing, or fold a piece of paper or tearaway stabiliser around the notebook, I made the flaps 2" wide.

Step 2 - Cut the fabric. I added 5/8 of an inch to the top and bottom and 1/2 to the sides. Hem the sides. I did not use a double hem as it would make the cover stay a bit open - the thinner the better.

Step 3 - Fold the flaps back to the front, pin the flaps 1/2 " to compensate for the thickness and check if it is not too tight.

Step 4 - add a piece of lining - it should cover the flaps for at least 1/2", mine is almost the width of the cover. I used same fabric in this case but when using scraps I use anything I can lay my hands on.
You can add a reading ribbon if you wish. Stitch the two seams.

Step 5 - clip the corners and turn through the opening, turn the flaps and this is what the inside looks like - pretty cool with the same fabric as lining.

Step 6 - put the cover on your notebook and you'll end up with a pretty gift.

It is easier than the instructions make it look: just two hems and two seams, that's all.

I buy notebooks half a dozen at a time and having the pattern, I make an assembly line - great gifts, nice items for charity fairs and so on. I like to use test stitch-outs, but I now and then I make designs especially for them and that defeats the fast-to-make idea. I made at least 4 dozen and no two are the same, which makes them sell "like hot buns" as a Dutch saying goes.

Thanks for that extra information. I forgot to say that I think the double stitching gives the cover added pizzaz.
It's those little extras that make a good item into a great item, isn't it.

I buy a dozen or so the same shape and size and a pattern makes it a very fast project. Ideal for fundraisers as well as small gifts when you need one.
