Sometimes the thread has moved up or down the cardboard centre but never off it. What was Peekos reaction to this mishap ?
I have had a 1,000m reel break at the bottom & have spent hours hand winding it onto an empty reel .Glad this didn't happen to me. Recently another 1,000m reel started to break up at the bottom but this time I had just bought a tube of G-S Hypo cement which has a very fine tip so I was able to glue the reel back together again.
Sure did! When I contacted the manufacture it sounded like the tread had not been wound at the proper tension. Also, if there is no 'bottom to the spool... Over the years I found that it is important to secure the loose end of the tread and not to let it just sit with the tread tail just hangin' around.
Mar 29, 2013 - Oh Peeko, you are in trouble now (lol). I'm new at this so it hasn't happened - yet. Now I'll know what to do. You've got to laugh though -- B
Never had the thread come off all in one 'lump' like this, that's strange. But my "Mikey" (big orange kitty) actually unwound a whole spool, all over the house, and I had to re-wind it by hand after untangling it from chair legs, table legs, scratching posts, etc. And it was almost this colour, too, only more blue-ish. I think I'd tell the manufacturer, personally, because it's not wound on the cone/center thingy tight enough. Best of luck with it, hugs, Marji
I had a spool of black thread that did that. Grrrrr. I threaded a chop stick up through the middle of the thread so it couldn't cross over inside and then I punched the bottom of the chopstick through a cardboard circle to make a base, then put the whole thing carefully into a big coffee mug. The mug has enough weight it won't tip over and I just leave the thread in the mug and thread over to my tall thread stand and then to my machine. Works great but you have to do everything real careful at first.
It is such a terrible waste of the thread when this happens. I have had it happen to me a few times - I don't understand that it could happen on its own, but it does !!! It is soooo annoying. I use it until I cannot anymore and then put it aside for other things - such as the lovely lace filled with the cuttings.
Happened to me to i have one spool the give me problem allot goes in the trash Maria
I too have had this happen & I used a drill to "re-wind" it back on the spool. A bit challenging to do as I had to rig a "bitt" to fit the length of the spool & after a few trials & errors I got it too work really well. Hugs Loralye PS you are never alone;0)
yes it happened to me - the inside broke and i had thread everywhere - i just laughed - was able to rescue it by putting it on a bottle - could not use it all but was able to rescue most of it - it as a lovely bright yellow thread i remember
Yes, I have had it happen to me and like you I continue to use it..Not the most fun..Also like you I am glad I am not the only one. However I don't have dog or cat so have to blame the alter-me for it happening. VBG
I wonder if you set in a Beer/soda bottle then thread to machine if it would work? try it?
Yes, I have had it happen ;right now, I have a large spool of bobbin thread that has abt. 3/4 of the roll left, that is coming off in broken sections,so can't keep useing, to wind bobbins..alittle goes on one..I'm going to be ordering more;but will let the co. know abt. this spool. I think, there was a problem when they were winding it. Interesting that they didn't catch it..Will see what they say..I did nothing to it, except to fill bobbins; as I fill 10 at one time. Diane M.
yes I have had it happen, gets all tangled when you try to rewind, I keep thinking something like an old hand mincer with a spool attatched might work but hav'nt tried yet....wendy
well at least you were able to save it..now you have to be really careful when you use it..
Not like this but have noticed some have Mondays and Fridays wind ups. That is what I call them anyways. Thread seems to go fine then pop off bunch or like going backwards.
I worked at harding carpets for years and i wound 25 pound spools of thread and i never saw this happen weird
I've had it try to happen on a smaller spool....I just keep pushing it down!
No I have never had this happen or heard of it before, curious isn't it
I bought a bulk lot of cotton ..100 spools. They were made in India but embroidered beautifully. They all unwound themselves . Some came completely off the spool. No more Bargain threads for me. I will stick to well known brands from now on!
