Someone already mentioned the Sew What Program to you for editing designs.

I think you would be better looking at the Sew What Pro Program as it has more features than the Sew What Program.

You can add names to another deisgn.

You can merge 2 or more designs to make one.

You can make names or words using Alphabet letters that you may have purchased or downloaded free that are already digitzed.

You can re size a design and the stitch count of the design will automatically be adjusted.

If you download a design that is not in your machine format you can convert it to your machine format with this program too.
And do so much more!

The program is $65.00 US.

You can download the program for free and demo/use it for 30 days or 60 saves and then purchase it if you like it.

Link to the Sew What Pro Program is below for you to see.

Charlie, please be aware that editing other digitiser's designs is quite illegal as all designs, either given away or sold, are done so under a contract or license that you agree to abide by as soon as you download the design.
These licenses also apply to artwork, that you purchase , to digitise into a design.
This area of our wonderful hobby is a real minefield so please be very careful not to publicise any designs you use, unless you have express permission to use them, or the way in which you use them is in accordance with their license.

Other than all of the above, I highly recommend Embird to any beginner as you can purchase the modules individually as you decide you need them. You can start with the basic program Manager and Editor and grow from there when you are ready to tackle LEARNING to digitise your own designs.
Embird is the absolute BEST value for money, the best supported and most up to date of all the embroidery programs available.
Upgrades are usually as cheap as chips, unlike the BRAND named software which usually cost an arm and a leg.
Also, there are many Yahoo groups dealing specifically with learning Embird, (but if you are computer savvy, you will master it in no time with or without help)
The Balara's who created the program are very easy to contact and willing listeners when it comes to their clients suggestions for improvements, hence the program is always being improved upon, though I am still using the 2008 version and am very happy with it.
I hope this info is of some help to you.
Hugs and roses, Meganne (Melide Menschen Designs)

Hi Charlie - not sure of what you really want. I also started just doing easy things and got frustrated when I could not do more. About 18 months ago I bought Sew What Pro and it has changed my embroidery life. You can cut out bits of designs, merge designs, it has it's own selection of fonts - more than you will ever need, which you can make larger, smaller, arch etc. I spend more time with SWP than I do embroidering. Have a look on the internet and download a trial version - that's what I did. For making your own designs you will need a proper digitizing program. Good luck. Sarah.

I have both 5D Pro- which cost €1699 - and Embird Basic, Font Engine and Studio. I use Embird almost exclusively (and only recently did cross stitch design in 5D).
Embird Basic does all the things you mentioned (except change the style of lettering) and quite a few more, and there are a number of accomplished users here who'll be willing to help with any questions you might have. And there are lessons on the Internet. Have a look at Clipartopolis, see link, scroll down to Embird Editor and see a couple of lessons that show how to use it.

Charlie, I just read this further post from you and my best advice would be to start with something like Sew What, which is free and a good program to learn the basics. Once you have used it and learned all it has to offer, and you decide you are ready to learn to digitise, then you can move on to Embird or even Sew What Pro.

I have typed the URL below, with spaces, in case the link doesn't work, make sure if you copy and paste, to remove the spaces before you press enter.

I have brother machines and use Embird Basic. You can add other parts later if you like. It is also machine independent so if you get a different machine later you can still use Embird. My next part will likely be the font engine - then if I can ever find the time - the design studio for digitizing. Good Luck in your research.

I just did an ebay search on 3D software (husqvarna) because I do not believe brother has a comparable product. husqvarna 5D is less than $400. The professional suite is $1400 this one digitizes, There is also Drawings Pro 5 & 6 anmd CreativeDrawing which I do not know. So you have choices, I am happy with 3D and may go to 5D when I have to. I have more brother machines than husqvarna

You can cut parts of designs and put them together, change color, resize, however you may need the big package to edit(change stitches).

I say Embird is not too expensive and many cuties use it and I have never heard anyone not liking it. I just have the basic embird for now but will be adding the font engine as well as studio (for digitizing) a little later. The basic embird will allow you do resize, add or delete but it works great and easy to learn. I think at Secrets of Embroidery it cost around $140-$150.00.
Good Luck

Embrillance Essentials has a good program. You cannot originate a design (digitize) but you can resize, combine designs, add a frame. change colors, add lettering or easily make a monogram. The web site has a demo you can download and lots of tutorials. Worth looking at.

I am trying to make the same decision. I too have heard good things about Embird. I have been researching Digitize & Stitch by Amazing Designs but cannot find anyone who uses it. I want to go to a store that sells this program and hopefully see it in action. Then too if I rn nto a problem I will have someone I can go to for help. Let me know what you decide on. Susan

Hi
I use Embird and I like it. I use a Janome machine, but the Janome software was more expensive and I prefer not to be tied in to one machine type.
Good luck.

Hi Charlie I have Brother machines and use PE design for what I want need. Quite a lot here use Embird and there are many positive comments about it. I mainly use my softwear to produce names on items. The downside to softwear is that its not cheap. Do let us know what you get
