This is so beautiful I think if you can match the curleques that are all ready in the piece (lt. brown) and add an edging of the same color and shape your piece will be finished.
Good Luck and keep on stiching

Once again Welcome and please share with us your creations too! Pam, Oregon USA
Have a look at this site and see what is done with pieces of embroideried fabric ,table clothes ,etc, may work for you. If you go to youtube and google CindyNeedham you will see her trunk show. Beautiful work.
My idea...send it to me! :) Gorgeous! Great job Christine!
Hi Chris, I'd certainly leave it as is! I would love to see it backed and with a border. Or maybe you could pull some threads out and do a hardanger design. Something like the picture below. Love and blessings Chris.
P.S. You would need to used a colour close to the ones in your runner as a border and backing of course.
This is beautiful. It looks like embroidery on linen with entredeux. My piece will look a little more "raw" however I think once I do put on a back and border it will look finished.
that is beautiful. look great on a coffee table for everyone to see,,,
I think I found the thread that was used to make this. Wow, lot of lot of work. I am still not going to do it! I would rather hear the sweet sounds of my machine stitching.
It is exquisite. Has the background been left unworked? The method with this type of work is to complete the design and then fill in the background - a really boring long job! However, for really high thread count it can be left "bare". I think I would add a velvet border and back and call it a cushion - strictly for ornamental purposes!
this is beautiful and did you do this by hand, just lovely.
Is it big enough to have been intended as a piano bench? These were real popular in the 50's and 60's. Gorgeous.
I will measure it tomorrow, however I think you may be correct. I think the size is just right for a piano bench.
I guess it is definitive. I will probably do a small border if I can't find the perfect patterned fabric then I would do a 2 - 3 in padded border. I'll be back before I do anything.
I agree with others, it is beautiful as is. Perhaps to finish the edges with a trim or fringe or turn them under and stitch. maybe fold the ends to a point and add a small tassel. Keep it simple. Kay
This piece is absolutely gorgeous. I also think it should stand by itself. No more than a small border if that and I would use it as a table runner.
Lovely, I would leave it as is. Would look so pretty on any table.
I think this is a gorgeous table runner as it is. If you want to make it a bit sturdier, back it with a luxury fabric like satin with a thin batting in the center.
leave it as it , it is beautiful Christine! love the detail. Hugs Loralye
Agreed. If you cannot needlepoint the background, then leave it alone. It would be lovely framed or made into a pillow with no further embelllishment. ( PS needlepoint is only half a cross stitch most commonly with wool).
Yes. The center is made with less strands and smaller stitches. It is too big for a pillow. I may experiment on another piece to see if I like a backing and frame.
this realy is beautiful !!! I should leave it like it is, because now your attention is drawn to this beautiful design. it's gorgeous ! and if you want to add something; perhaps a very simple border in the colors of the swirls along the edges. i love it !
I have more pieces, some of the others might be good for other things and techniques, I can take pics tomorrow. Should I use it as a table runner or hang it on the wall?
