If you are thinking of getting things like this from Ebay. here are a few things you need to do.
1. look at the feed back score, it needs to be 100. to 200.
2. look at the feedback. make sure they have not had any negertive feed back points..
3. look at the comments in the feedback section make sure people have been happy with things he has been selling. you can usuly tell what it is he has sold, as comments say Fantastic machine. ect.
Most people spend years building up a 100% positive feedback score,
and this tells you this person is a good seller. And this is what you are looking for. 100% feed back score. and at least 100 of them.
hope this helps.
Hugs Pam.
I bought one of my 2003 ULT's from ebay--it was the seller's second time to list. I LOVE IT!! In fact, it is a 2002 that was upgraded to 2003. I use it all the time and since I bought the other brand new ''back when'', I just am saving it for when this older one gives out. Ask for service count (I couldn't do that because the 2002 didn't have that feature) and total stitch count, and don't be alarmed by numbers. You know some designs have a lot of stitches & they add up, but not to worry if it has been serviced regularly. I wouldn't try to influence you, but I was very happy with my deal. I love the ULT so much and I was afraid if mine died, I'd never find another. Silly goose, I am, I always want 2 of almost everything. Just in case....
Oh, and let me add...my Bro dealer is 100 mi + away, but the Husq. dealer here can service my machines if needed...I've had one of them to him with satisfaction. If serious problems, I drive the distance!

I would say be very Cautious about buying from a private party on EBay for this kind of purchase. Chances are you will have no warranty and even if they would accept a return it would cost a lot to return it. Shipping charges are generally not refunded. Now if you are buying from a dealer that is a different story. I have purchased both of my Brothers on Ebay from dealers and have been very happy. I got them for much less than I would have paid locally. Good luck!
I agree with hightechgrammy about buying a brand that has a dealer close by.
I bought my Ult2003 on Ebay four years ago. It had been a store demo. It had lots of missing parts like hoops and feet. After about 5 months of buying all the missing parts, I had it cleaned and tuned at the Brother store. They offered the service plan for about $350 for 3 years. That has been really worth it. But, unless you are not around any Brother stores, I would seriously considering buying a brand of machine where you DO have a store nearby. Embroidery machines can be pretty finicky and need cleaned and tuned up pretty often.
I have purchased machines on ebay. It was new in box, however it had no warranty since it was from a private owner. It looked like it was new in box, however it had a problem with lowering the feed dogs. I got it to work for a year before it crashed completely. Unfortunately it would cost about half the cost of the machine to fix it. So do I go new or fix this one?
Do you have a Brother dealer near you? Many dealers take in machines as trade-ins when the owner upgrades to a newer machine. These machines that are traded in are serviced and offered at a signifigantly reduced price. Hope you find a good used machine soon.
My advice, don't buy a Brother without having a dealer nearby. And as in my case, don't buy it if your local dealer is a jerk.
I agree with the 'caution' commented upon by danababes. As with all things 'EBay' (and similar services) it is very much a case of buyer beware, particularly in the case of 'private sales.' That is not to say that there are not good deals to be had privately. Thoroughly check the sellers feedback and ideally arrange for a demonstration if the seller is local to you. Of course, there are many businesses that trade on EBay and these may very well offer some form of warranty or pre-delivery service guarantee. I would also recommend doing the rounds of companies that trade in the type of machine you wish to buy, as many take good machines in part-exchange where customers are upgrading, etc. Finally, I don't know the particular machine you are interested in but many actually electronically log the number of hours, etc., of use. This can be quite helpful information. I hope that this helps a little and I wish you every success in your search.
I bought one on ebay and love it, however I knew that the seller was also a dealer and that the machine was a fully-serviced trade-in (previous owner had upgraded to a newer Brother machine). I love that I have 6x10 as my biggest hoop now :) I got the ULT2001 (known in Australia as the Brother Super Galaxie 3000).
Be aware that you won't usually get any kind of warranty by buying a 2nd hand machine on ebay, unless the auction specifically states that you will.
Final decision is always yours to make of course :) xXx
