A random thought. From having been to the Quilt Show at the NEC in August a few times there are often things for sale there that we don't usually have in the UK. Long arm quilting machines and other 'stuff' bought to the UK just for the event are also sold off cheaply at the end of the show. Import duty to the UK has stopped many a mad plan of mine and will continue to do so. Or go to the States on holiday and bring one back. Do let us know how you sort this problem out
You have probably had all the answers you need on this matter but I would certainly highlight the point made regarding import and VAT charges, plus the administrative charge levied by UK couriers. Import and VAT is charged at the declared cost of the product in the US including shipping charges. If the parcel is sent via USPS then it will be handled on arrival in the UK by Parcel Force. They pay the HM Customs charges and then write to you (snail mail) to reclaim these charges before they will arrange to deliver. They will also add their administrative charge (currently £14.00) onto everything else.
The other thing to consider is, what happens if there is a fault with the machine......who will do the repairs, even if it is still under warranty? I suspect that any official manufacturers agents in the UK might be reluctant to undertake this work if they have not benefitted from the original sale. I can assure you that HM Customs are extremely hot on recovering import charges at present.
Remember import duty is huge in the UK. I was caught once and vowed NEVER AGAIN. even the post office charges you plenty for doing the paperwork
not many on the used market here. I guess once you spend the money it is hard to let go of,
Joann Fabrics has them for 40% off through April 20, 2013 in the US. They give a shipping charge for Canada, but i'm not sure if they ship to the UK. I think they are pricey, but I love mine. You can cut out a quilt in a fraction of the time it takes to cut with a rotary cutter.

Not sure that I would use this so I wonder, what would your main uses
be for this machine..

i have a few friends that do quilting. i have bought the machine so we can share it and it works out cheaper to make your own shapes.
I would like to purchase one also but just can't seem to justify the cost.
