It's been just one of those days! I got up, determined to put a particular motif on some table napkins. (Something I had never done before.) I tweaked my design (especially digitised with a particular friend in mind), added a placement line and a basting stitch as per Martine's excellent instructions and put it on my memory stick. So far so good, but by the time I got into my sewing cave the stick had disappeared. I always put it into my jeans pocket when I take it out of the PC but it wasn't there. I wasted half an hour searching the house and garden, even places I hadn't been, and eventually gave up and found another stick. Back to the PC. (Can you hear my afternoon ticking away?)

I chose the perfect colour to tone with my friends dining room and when I lifted it from the rack, several miles of thread decided to explode from the spool. I pulled most of it off and wound a bobbin. (I wanted the embroidery to look the same on both sides.) I just about managed to test stitch the design, but the thread wasn't running properly so I changed the colour scheme ready to start again on the napkins.
Up to now, I hadn't found the set of four I knew I had in my stash, so I risked an avalanche and stuck my head in the cupboard. Now, you thought I wasn't going to find them didn't you? Well you are wrong, I found them straight away and then I remembered that they were damask with a pattern of roses. Absolutely unsuitable for use with my design. Back to the cupboard.
To cut a long story a little bit shorter, I found two plain white tea towels which I cut in half.
So my question for today is, can napkins be rectangular? Too late to tell me no though because mine are.
I did learn something useful though - if you turn the tension right down when you baste the "napkin" to the stabiliser, the stitches pull out much easier to finish the job off.
PS I found my memory stick in the back pocket of my jeans while I was clearing up.

Sorry...your story made me laugh.....that same scenario happens all to often to me. It's a good thing I'm not trying to make a living at this because it takes me forever to get anywhere. I'm sure your napkins are beautiful. Sometimes I wish people could know how much effort went into projects. My friends just think I zip them out.

Sue, looking for the positive here. LOL LOL LOL.
Your napkins, no matter what shape, will be made with great thought, when finally stitched out. AND made me laugh. So glad you finally found the usb..

Tie a ribbon to the USB, I have, and then it is easy to locate. except if tucked into the back pocket of your jeans.. LOL

spendlove by spendlove 16 Apr 2013

It used to have a loop to attach to my key ring but it broke off.

Oh Sue you made me laugh and I am very relieved that a lot of us seem to be able to identify. Keys, glasses, USB Sticks and other small misc. items, never seem to be where I thought I had put them. Good thing about this is EXERCISE. Maybe they are upstairs. No they must be downstairs. Let me look upstairs one more time.......and so on.
I put the wrong size bobbin into the machine I planned on sewing with. What a mess. After I had finished cutting the material out of the bobbin case and cleaned up, thunder and lightening started. Unplugged all and gave up

How wonderful! I laughed out loud when I read this, as I think we can all relate to it!!!! I've put my USB sticks in the little holders that Meganne digitised and then they are easy to locate. Unless like you, I've pulled it out to take it somewhere and not put it back in its bright red or green cover! So glad you found it and I like rectangular napkins, I think they are easy to fold. Your friend will love whatever you make and thanks for all the wonderful things you offer on here. Love and blessings Chris

I have had "one of those days" today as well. Mine began yesterday evening and worked right on through the afternoon today. It must be some phase of the moon. LOL
I hope you have a much better tomorrow!
PS I have three memory sticks just like yours -- they disappear and re-appear often.

I can empathize, the only difference, my hubby would bring me the flash drive after it went through the wash! Lol! On a serious note, I have had more than one day as your describe. On Dec 21st last year I went through at least 5 machines emb & sewing and none of them would work for me.

Sue, thanks for the good laugh. I AM sorry for you. Memory sticks and glasses, they always turn up in the first spot I looked - and overlooked them, but before I revisit that first spot I've looked everywhere else.

Rectangular sounds better than round ones and I have seen quite a few of those.

Wow. That is a day we can all relate to. As to rectangular napkins. Yes they are fine. I cannot remember the catalog but around Christmas someone was touting them as the practical/modern napkin.

I am experiencing that same happening while sewing my niece's daughter's christening gown. I have hand-stitching to do on the bodice and I put it somewhere in the house while looking for the thread that I misplaced, too. Luckily I found it under the lace overskirt. What fun we have with our memories at this age! LOL Thanks Sue for all the gifts you give us here on Cute! The best gift is learning to laught at yourself. LOL yet again! Sandra

The one I lost is at least 7 tears old. It used to be on my key ring but the attachment broke one night. That lead to me scrabbling about in the pub car park the next morning.
