I think I took over from Sue with disasters for the week. I did the laundry Monday and when I took out the last load from the washer to put into the dryer, what did I find? I found the thumb drive I use to take the design I am working on from my software to my machine. And yes, it went through the wash. It is squeaky clean. Funny thing though, It still seems to work. Maybe because I use detergent I make myself that is low sudsing. And now I have pinched a nerve or nerves in my neck. Who knew going to the hair dresser could be dangerous to my already damaged spine. I am being very careful today. Do I dare turn on a machine? I am going to try it.

yep have a little sew. You can sit fairly still, in a comphy chair.

For a minute there, I thought that you had reintroduced your thumb drive to the washing machine again!!

I'm so glad your thumb drive still works, you bypassed that saying "Everything comes out in the wash"

Too funny. It was a surprise to find it after the wash, I admit.

It still works! Out of sight. Is the design still there? This is interesting. Happy for you. AND been there with the neck. But we still have to carry on cause we're women. Hope it gets better soon.

So far it is still working. I try to work with my damaged spine rather than give into it.

Head turns. Do a few thousand of those and you will feel better.Stand staight, feet should width apart. chin up, slowly turn head from side to side... sounds easy right? . also this is similar to arm circles; pinch your index to your ring finger and rotate your palm up the down with arms extended out to the sides. Those 2 have helped me more than any other exercises. Do shoulder rolls. Go slow and breathe.

Thanks for the exercises. Fortunately, I have been using exercises for my damaged spine for several decades from the Physical Therapists I have seen over the years. My exercises have helped to keep me out of surgery but the day is coming when surgery will be needed because the episodes are coming quicker and quicker.

Husband left the checks from customers that day in his shirt which I promptly washed. Result was a paper machete mess not being able to deposit at the bank. Took him a while to reconstruct and calling his customers explaining his over zealous wife.
Dennis you now have to edit your post and add this to your timely warning. How long do you cook the salmon in the dishwasher?

Ouch, that one was much worse than my squeaky clean thumb drive.

dennis999 by dennis999 25 Apr 2013

Note to over-zealous wife: That's what is known as money laundering..........................a visit from the IRS may be in the offing!! lol.

These mishaps you ladies keep having is taking a lot of time out of my day. Now you want my recipe for cooking salmon in the dishwasher! I shall oblige of course although I do find your interest a bit fishy.

crafter2243 by crafter2243 25 Apr 2013

Dennis I am so glad for your sense of humor. Good to laugh. I guess now I can say I have laundered money. H, ha

This has been a very interesting thread containing a series of timely warnings and proposals for the creation of additional threads. Taken together with other recent 'mishaps' these proposals are:

1. "The multi-taskers guide to (avoiding) disasters in the home."
2. "Things to avoid putting in your washing machine or back pocket."
3. "How to remove moisture from electronic gadgets using dried rice - even if this means that your husband has to go without rice with his curry."
4. "Is accidental damage insurance worth the cost?"
5. "First Aid in the Home - Head Trauma." For those with cuckoo clocks.
6. "Improving your 'green credentials' by wasing your turnips in the washing machine."

and as an added bonus (what you might call a freebie):

7. "How to cook a salmon in the dishwasher."

Dennis, you must share your recipe for salmon. P.S. The rice can still be served to your husband, but I'm not going to eat it!

Dennis you crack me up!

cfidl by cfidl 24 Apr 2013

It is great having a huy in the group!

02kar by 02kar 25 Apr 2013

Dennis, I love your sense of humor. You forgot one item. We need a thread on home made cleaning products.

asterixsew by asterixsew 25 Apr 2013

Note to Dennis just remember to wrap the salmon well in foil when you cook it in the dishwasher OR you will be joining us in the mishap corner as your dishwasher will be full of bits of salmon

Thank you so much for sharing the dumb stuff we do. I mean that in a funny way as I have done some of the craziest, but I do believe that my dear mother would have won the prize for washing machine oddities. My mom washed her turnip greens in the washing machine.....AND she did it on purpose???? Said it was quicker and got rid of all of the bugs.

P.S. WHO decided to put a computer keyboard in the washer in the first place?

02kar by 02kar 24 Apr 2013

I think your mom was a very wise woman. hehe. I think it would be so much fun to share the funny mistakes we have all made.

02kar by 02kar 24 Apr 2013

Yea! I am glad I am not the only one to do this. But lesson learned. I have been using this thumb drive for about 5 years. No more putting it into a pocket where I can forget it.

What good luck with the near demise of your thumb drive. Now, tell us about your home-made detergent, your recipe would be nice to have.

............and perhaps a thread on "First Aid in the Home" for those who injure their neck having a hair-do or drop cuckoo clocks on their head.

Yes, it is an on-going issue for me. So far it is not as bad as the episode I had with it in North Dakota. I am being good and trying to get it back under control with all the techniques I have learned over the 30plus years of dealing with my unhappy spine.

The pains we go through to be beautiful...

I've heard of placing a wet cell phone in a bag of rice to help draw out the water from all nooks and crannies.. Maybe it would make sense to do the same with your thumb drive--just to make sure.

I think that is a great idea. It would show us all that we are human and give our new members something to think and laugh about.

dennis999 by dennis999 24 Apr 2013

Excellent idea. You could call it "The multi-taskers guide to (avoiding) disaster" or "What not to put in your washing machine or back pocket."

debi197 by debi197 24 Apr 2013

well, for myself:

my brand new Razor cell phone. I had it in my pocket at work and went home for lunch to put a load in the laundry. (I've never done that again! lol) AT&T was so nice, they sent me a new one, just had to take out the battery and send in the back (or was it front?).
I had only had the phone about 2 weeks... thank goodness i had insurance...

Take it easy & don't stay at your machine so long you strain your neck_ we do have a tendancy to forget about time when we get at the machine!

You are so right. I set a goal and work until I achieve it. And sometimes it is much harder or takes much longer to get there than I thought it would.
