I'm thinking about changing digitizing software, what would you reccomend and what things should I look for when purchasing a new one.

I'm also looking for a design management software that will not loose the designs and that will allow me to view all the disigns, no matter the extension, without having to have proprietory dongles, and several different softwares opened up, to look for specific designs for projects I'm working on.

Any help with either of these would be most helpful. Thank You and Happy Digitizing

Have you any idea what the cost of the software will be? I can't find it anywhere at the site. I expect it to be pricey as they mention trading in your existing software for up to $1000.

I'm not sure either....you could email Holly Pike the owner of Artistic Threadwork Designs and ask her or her husband Larry...I've taken a couple of the free classes for Generations and LOVE it...it can do so many more things than my software.

What embroidery machine do you use?

Have you used Portfolio (part of ARTISTA V6 DESIGNER)?
It gives design picture and you can specify Pic only or pic and details, # colors, # stitches, size. You load Portfolio after ARTISTA loads, see FILE DROPDOWN MENU.

Works very well for me.

ORGANIZATION is a personal thing depending on now you deal with data. I download to a site specific folder (Cute, Sick, BFC, OPW, etc. Then I make subfolders below each site and send design to PETS, FLORAL, REDWORK, APPLIQUE, ALPHAS, BABY, BASKETS, BOOKMARKS, BORDERS/NECKLINES, BUGS, CANDLEWICKING, BIRDS, CHILDREN, COASTERS, CROSSSTITCH, FEATHERS, ANGELS, FSL, FRUIT/VEG, MONOGRAMS, SAYINGS, and on and on depending on what you collect. This is WORK, WORK, WORK but worth it. I have a CATEGORY FOLDER AND WITHIN THAT I have all the subfolders so I can just copy the whole CATEGORY FOLDER to design site and not have to type new folder name again and again.

PM me if questions.

I have 5D Pro and Embird Basic, Studio and Iconiser. Both 5D Organiser and Embird's Iconiser let you view almost all design formats.
5D comes with a dongle, Embird with installation codes.
They both have the same general propeties and their own exclusive bits. Prices vary greatly.
5D has several wizards that are said to be consumer friendly and fast, but I prefer Embird for general digitizing.

I use Embird and I'm happy with it, but I have no experience of anything else.

What are you using at the moment? For what I do I use PE 8 which I am Very happy with. You might need to send a PM to a selection of people who regularly share their designs with us in DBC to ask them what they think. So far you have not had replies from these Cuties

I love Berninas Artista V6. It is amazing, but there is a learning curve, and I'm still on it.

I'm still on same learning curve. I'll get there eventually though...

I have only had Artista Designer from V1, V2, V3, V4 and now am lucky enough to have V6 which has so many neat options.

The only two digitizing programs that I know of that do not have dongles are the Embird and Floriani programs...With Embird, there are several optional plug ins that you can choose from...Basic Embird is not a digitizing program but an Editing program...Embird Studio is the digitizing plug in...then there is a cross stitch and font and others...I think the Floriani program comes complete...I don't have it but I know others who do...and once you purchase it, all the upgrades are free forever. I understand they also have video tutorial on their website for educational support. If you are going to get it, I would suggest you purchase it at one of their seminars...special pricing...not sure if you can use the special pricing if you have not attended one of their seminars...

Thanks for the information. I'm not familiar with these programs, but will do some serious research. Wishing you a beautiful day :-) .

Me, again. I think everybody buys the digitizing program (TCP) at a Floriani event, because it is so much lower than the price they regularly quote. And they'll help you get started, with some basic training. Plus, fabulous info about stabilizers and hooping and stitching out.

1st - Floriani Total Control Pro, seems expensive but so awesome and updates and upgrades are free "forever." It has fabulous features. I use it a lot for simple things like resizing, combining design elements, and changing formats, etc.

2nd - Floriani Embroidery Image Maker - around $60 at a Floriani event or $99 (?) otherwise - a simple program that lets you view all designs in your stitch folders as icons. You'll wonder what you did before. You can just skim through the folders to find exactly what you want. (Not really management - just a viewer and so worth it.)

Enjoy.

Each excellent values. I'm sold (and I'm just a consumer).

Thanks so much for the input. I'm not familiar with the Floriani Embroidery Image Maker software, but I'll do some research to check it out. Sounds like maybe what I'm searching for. Just something that will not eat my designs and allow me to view them when in a hurry.
Enjoy Digitizing :-)
