I have a question for you expert embroiderers.

I am trying a dense design on cotton and using tear away (2 ply) on bottom and one layer of tear away on top and it wants to poke holes and bend the needle. What am I doing wrong, please? Is the cotton fabric too thin should I put padding or something in between the cotton and tear away?

You already got the best 2 answers I could think of. Hope to see your work in projects!

I would recommend using a light or medium cut-away stabilizer for any dense design, as you need more stability to hold the stitches, and help keep the fabric from puckering around the design. I always use water soluble stabilizer on top to keep stitches from sinking into fabric. I would not add any padding or anything in between, because for a needle to bend, there is already too much density/thickness of design and stabilizers combined. Ballpoint needles are recommended for woven fabrics, such as cotton blends or knits. A sharp needle can cut the fabric and cause holes.
Hope this helps.
Hugs, Angel

Hi sometimes if I am sewing a very dense design I increase the size of the design a very small amount. Is it a design that you have already sewn out or not? Sorry but I don't think I have been very helpful

Aren't YOU smart? I would never have thought of this, but, of course, it works.
