Well, it's good to know that a member here has benefitted from my post. Perhaps we should ask Metro for further discount for spreading the word on their current pricing structure......lol.

Hi Dennis, I was lucky and I got help from one of our very well loved Cuties from America. I had to pay exorbitant postage charges for each box, but it was worth it in the end. Buying them like that, it was still worked out cheaper than buying the large spools here in Australia. I have them stored in drawers in my sewing room and with 5000m on each spool I don't think I'll ever run out! Love and blessings Chris
5/21/13 Have you researched Marathon threads. Made in N. Korea Reasonably priced.
5,500 Yard King cone $5.25/spool for poly
1,100 Yard Mini Spool $2.25/spool for poly of course this is US dollars

I buy mine from a shop in Dallas tx that sells wholesale to the trade. It is all I use, except an occasional odd brand, and I love it.
Metro Thread comes out of El Paso ,Texas. I'm lucky I can get mine in 2 days. So the solution is pack up and move to Texas. Problem solved lol

Hi Dennis. To buy Metro here in the UK you have to buy direct from USA so what you save on the offer is paid in Customs Duty when they arrive here. Patotter bought some a number of years ago and says they are excellent. I looked into buying myself . Designs by SICK also do good offers but again a large amount is spent in Customs. If you know some one in the States they could get them and then send them to you as a present. Ah last thought go to the States on holiday...
Yes, I have had a number of experiences of buying items from the USA ranging from artwork to motorcycle bling and as you say, the wretched Customs get in the way every time, and UK Customs is charged not only on the value of the goods but the cost of shipping as well! The idea of getting things sent as a 'gift' is great in theory but I know of several people who have caught a cold trying this method. Also, anything posted to the UK via the USPS is managed by Parcel Force when it arrives in the country and they charge you an exhorbitant administration fee on top of the Customs levy. Oh well, I guess I shall just have to put up with rip-off British prices. After all is said and done, we've got to keep filling up the trough so that our politicians have something to get their snouts into.
Dennis where do you usually buy your threads from and what brand are you using?
Same here: VAT on product and postage/packing plus costs for the postal service here as they send it to customs. Still, sometimes it is worthwhile buying in the USA.
Have you tried the Brildor website? It's Spanish, so in theory you would not have to pay customs. They send to a lot of countries, including yours (but not to the Netherlands). I can buy it here at a far higher price and it sews very well. They have a complete range in both polyester and rayon. Have a look http://www.brildor.com/tienda/hil...
Hi Asterixsew. I am currently switching between King Star and Madeira. As to suppliers, I have tried several including Barnyarns for Madeira and my machine supplier, Dowlings in Essex, who stock King Star. I have found Dowlings to be good on supply (though a little higher priced). I could not be so positive regarding the other suppliers I have dealt with.
Good luck with this one - you can bet your life the price will be double here!
