I've joined the ranks of failed computer! Any advice on how to use Viking 3D with Microsoft Vista? I hear they are not compatable. New computers all have Vista.

I have vista & have had trouble with it. Embird did not work until a friend told me to download it by right click mouse and click on open as adminstrator. It now works. You can also put a second harddrive in and use this as xp

in Aust you can pay to have vista taken off your computer and XP put on lots of people I know have done it .lots of programs won't run on vista ,about $50

Tks! Left the computer at the computer doctor today...hopefully he can fix it. If not I certainly will try to get XP on a new one!

I don't believe 3D will run with Vista. 3D was designed before the new stuff (pardon my techinical term) was designed for Vista. My sister just got a new computer with Vista and bought (did a trade-up) the 4D Extra and seems to be working fine. You may try contacting Viking to see what they say. Our dealer said you could trade up to 4D until Dec.1. However, another one said you couldn't. It is worth a try.

Gerry Thank goodness I don't know much about Vista. I have XP . But hope you can get things straightened out. A flower for those headaches.

Sorry u're having problems gerryb You've got some good answs. Me I have the xp. One of these days if not already they're gonna start selling machines with special made laptops hopefully JUST FOR THE EMBROIDERY MACHINE course they'll probably be so xpensive no one can afford them *4U

Hee hee! Couldn't read a word but I DO appreciate your help anyway!

You can get new computers with XP if you ask .They will take Vista out and put XP on for you.I refuse to have Vista! I don't know about Viking 3D, but with my Janome software there is now an update available to make it Vista compatible.If you go into their site and check for updates it might tell you. Otherwise ring the people you bought it of, or the supplier.Good luck.

i know some one who had the same prob with vista and brother she had to get a patch for it don't know if it was a download or got it from dealer.

What I have been tould is you have to partition the hard drive and run Xp on one part and vista on the other or may be you could a by external hardrive and run xp on that or the other alternative is to wipe out vista and reinstall xp

Hey! Thanks! I got an external drive to backup stuff, but waited too long. I'll see about installing XP and my 3D on that. Now if my computer man at church can help me do it, I'll be back in business!

i have xp, but remember ladies had trouble with vista and Bernina software. Good luck sweetie!!

gerry, I also don't know a heck of a lot, BUT I can tell you that I attended a 2-day seminar over the weekend all about 4D viking software and many of the ladies had vista and no problems. Personally I still have an old computer with XP and don't have any problems. I used to have 3D again with XP. I guess what I'm trying to say is that no one expressed any problems with 3D or 4D w/Vista. Good luck and ***4u

Thanks! My sweet hubby lets me use his laptop, but it doesn't have my 3D on it, so can't check out the vista thing with it! And I don't like desktops to type on! I'll see what happens! Hang on to that old computer with XP!

3D is not compatible with vista you can not instal 3D made that way so you have to up grade to 4D they make more money that way gets very expensive when you have to keep up grading

Thanks! Tomorrow I'll take my old computer to see if it can be "revived" and still have XP to work with! Let's hope!!
