Sue you should now put up your jacket here for all to see what this roll became.....love Kerry....your jacket is fab...
Sue what a lovely gift you received from your daughter. Can't wait to see what you are going to do with it. Hugs Yvonne x
You are so lucky......I wish we had such beautiful fabric in South Africa. Our choices are limited
I don;t have experience with how much fabric this is, but I'd go for the jacket, maybe with solid sleeves if it's getting too busy (set in some piping?) Then if there's a bit left, I'd make a slouchy bag that is somehow different - maybe the stripes as diagonals, or a black purse with two or three stripes of the jelly roll fabrics?. What fun fabrics i had boys, so this ain't happening at my birthday!!
I say what i want now. this May I had Fabric, cutting mat, rotary cutter and a craft book.
Ok, if it were mine I would do a quilted vest. I love jelly rolls and have several books on jelly roll quilting and vests. Now you get to pick what you want to do. Have fun with this beautiful fabric. Hugs..Carol
I'm with almag...a jacket would be lovely and your daughter would surely feel so special every time she saw you wear it...
These are beautiful colours. I fell in love with jelly rolls when I saw this video ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eo... ....
of jelly roll racers, creating quilt tops. I tried it at the next quilt camp I attended and had great fun; suddenly, the little camp shop was inundated by quilters buying up all the jelly rolls and several quilt tops were created that very day.
OK... about jackets. No, I haven't used a jelly roll for a jacket but one of my very first projects many, many years ago was a strip-quilted jacket from my chosen fabrics. I had a basic loosely-fitting jacket pattern in homespun with thin batting on top and then used the strip-quilt-as-you-go method. It was a handsome jacket and I loved it. Someone else loved it, too, because I only offered it once and it was snapped up.
You could use the strips randomly as they come from the roll, or go to great lengths to combine them in a certain order, or use them to create special blocks and then create a fabric from which you'd cut out your jacket. I'd go the random way for impact and happy surprise.
I'm sure these colours would make a superb jacket and wouldn't your daughter feel special to see you wearing her gift so proudly and keeping warm. It could be a light-weight for autumn wear or thicker for winter wear, depending on the batting you used, but strip-quilted jackets are wonderfully warm and cosy, yet keep their shape and pizzaz.
Love the colours, great idea, Good Luck.

What a beautiful "jelly roll" as we quilter's call it. Why not check out this video on YouTube. You can make the coolest quilt in an hour. It is done by Missouri Star Quilt Company They have tons of videos for making quilts fast and fun.
Aha!!! Great minds think alike!!
I, really enjoyed this video and have watched it often.
Beautiful colours. I have just purchased one called 'Late bloomers' from Moda. It's Autumn shades. Thinking I'll make a doona cover for my bed. Will be watching Projects to see what you do, Sue.
I have not made a jacket but have seen various patterns that use strips like these and they are beautiful.
you could make a lovely bag with it.......
you could make a beautiful wall hanging....
you could make someone happy and send it my way..hehehehe
HAPPY (BELATED) BIRTHDAY deanna
I HOPE THAT YOU HAD A FANTASTIC BIRTHDAY SUE, hugs Loralye
What a great present from Kate. A jacket sound super and I look forward to seeing what you create with your lovely pressie. If I were making a jacket from this I would cut a slightly larger one in thin cotton to use as a base and sew onto it creating as I went. Have fun sewing, much better than gardening
A jaacket would be stunning. Why not add black to make the colors pop?
No ideas but I am sure that you will come up with something FIESTA to make and I will be making ;D *2U
