Hello Ladies and Gents ....... I was just wondering how often you back up your embroidery files. Also - do you delete previous back-ups or should I date them and keep them all?

I try to back-up everything approximately every month to a thumb drive and overwrite previous files. Each year I make a CD copy of the previous year's downloads.

Thank you for your advice. I really need to become more diligent in this matter.

I back up probably once a month, unless I have bought heaps then I will back up my download folder onto a CD... I usually back up on DVD as they seem to be the safest, as portable hard drive die and sticks do as well.. Hugs Sally

Thank you. I have backed up onto an external hard drive but I have read that they are not always reliable.

If you do the back up I would keep them all, especially if you do cds, just because I've gotten some error reads on some, and I've lost a few that way.

Thank you. Maybe a CD or DVD is the way to go. External hard drives are expensive in comparison and I have heard that they can crash.

I back mine up about once a month on an external drive.

Thank you. I have an external hard drive but I was worried when I heard that some people have had trouble with them.

06-04-2013 I back up my hard drive monthly. I back up my embroidery downloads weekly. Both back ups are on different external hard drives kept at seperate places. I do not delete a back up until after the new back up is complete. I have had to flash drives crash so I only use them to transfer data, not store. I also do a complete virus scan prior to backing up to reduce the chance of replicating a virus--so far so good.

I think that I might have to discipline myself to back up weekly. I think I may invest in a seconf external hard drive and do what you are doing. It seems like a good idea. Thank you for answering.

I have MyPCBackup and it does it as many times a day as I have it scheduled. Plus an external hard-drive and CD's. Never can be to careful. I've been lucky..this last time when my computer died (I hadn't been good about backing up for around a year) my local computer place was able to upload everything to my lap-top and I was able to back it up everything. Cost around $70.00 cheap if you consider the alternative.

I bet you were scared into backing up more frequently. I am glad that you were able to retrieve your data. I agree that in a case like that, $70 is cheap! Thanks for the advice.

I've been collecting embroidery designs since 1997...so I have a few...LOL
Muffy :)

I backup my downloads every other day. Then after putting them in my control folders, I back that up once a month. Only then do delete anything. And I keep master backups on 2 big jump drives. Both next to this computer and in another location beside my home.

I back mine up each month. Sometimes more often if I've brought a lot. After I've backed up the current month and checked it, I delete the previous month. Lyn. xx
