I just saw how to sew on this not too long ago, but I can't remember which show it was...Sewing with Nancy? SewItAll? or Sew Easy....I think they put a strip of WS or webbing or something on the pieces and used a stretch needle. You could try the sites of the shows and see if there is anything there. I think it was the show featuring how to sew on different fabrics.
I agree with ball point and you probably well on way getting it done by now. I have not been on for few days. My mother did great with the mastectomy and had 3 pillows given to her. Not much pain either. So thank you for your prayers.
I am very happy to hear this Mary I have been praying for you all. I am glad that she likes the pillows too. hugs Loralye
Can't she just eat more until it fits? ;)
She is going to be the bell of the ball ..Chris and the other girls have given you the right advise as to stitching and needle type, good luck make sure you post a photo or two so we can see her in the finished dress...Marian
Hi Loralye,
Like everyone else has suggested A BALL POINT NEEDLE is the best to sew any stretchy fabric.
I'd try the dress on her inside out, pin it, tack it and try it on her again. Once she is happy with it, sew the seams with the ball point needle in one of the stretch stitches on your sewing machine and voila! It should be perfect!
Good luck with it and I hope our GD has a wonderful time at the Graduation ball. Love Chris
when i did the girl next doors i cut it off went around on the serger then pin it and sewed it easy right??hugs
Jun 15, 2013 - This is gorgeous! I'd be afraid to tackle this, you are so brave. let us know how it goes.
If possible I would hand stitch the part that needs to be taken in and have her try it on. I have had pretty good luck stitching on this if I cut about one inch strips of WSS to put on both sides of the seam. It can pull out of shape easily and one of the stretch stitches that I like to use is the one that goes forward and then backward and increasing the length.
If your machine doesn't have a stretch stitch built in, use a slight zigzag. It would be a good idea to use a ball point needle so you don't pierce the elastic threads. Any polyester thread should work.
Hi Loralye: I haven't sewn much with spandex, but I would use a stretch needle and stretch the seam a little as you sew, that way it has some give to it. I would use a longer stitch and not cut any fabric away, that way if needed it could be let out again. Maybe others have better advise.

thanks Jerri what is a stretch needle? Can I use a universal needle? Should I use special thread to do this? thanks for your help Jerri Hugs Loralye
If you can get a stretch needle from the fabric shop would be
much safer sewing so that you won't damage the fabric. Stretch needles have a slightly rounded point that will not
split the fabric threads. I would sew on the slow speed and
sew only one time and use a small to medium size needle like a size 11. I know you can do a beautiful job and it will
look just great.
