can you recommend where you buy 100% cotton thread on-line? where is the best deal & the quality is good too. I want to do some cross stitch in the machine & more potato bags are requested & the price of fabric is very dear so maybe embroidering a design would be a better choice. TIA HUGS & ***********2 ALL

Lorayle they have a standard shipping rate of $7.99 on all orders over $50.00 to Canada and as for the taxes, it works out to about what we would pay for a purchase here at home. I have never paid for duty charges either and I have ordered at least 15 times from this company, I have had orders of $4oo.oo to $500.00 and have never paid duties and always $7.99 shipping and sometimes they have free shipping promos. I have to say it is always easy for me to spend at least $50.00 lol, check out some of the fabrics.

I was looking and they also sell Tater Bag Batting. Their shipping to Canada seems very reasonable...since they are in Washington (it borders on Canada) they are set up to serve Canada also. I found this shipping info to Canada on their web site.

I too buy my 100% cotton thread from Connecting threads, I also buy my batting (half the price I would pay at the fabric store) as well as most of my fabrics, love them. I buy the 50w for quilting.

Threadart ships to Canada, send an email and ask about shipping charges. See if you can find some cotton serger thread, it seems to be cheaper than embroidery thread, Good luck and happy stitching!

I don't want to have to pay extra for duty because if they make it anywhere but USA then I have to pay import charges too, this is what they said to me. but thanks for the link Bev, hugs Loralye

what weight do I need for machine embroidery?

That depends upon what kind of "look" you want and how the design was digitized...I believe most are for "normal" 40 wt. or 50 wt thread...but some made to look "vintage" use 30 wt thread to make it look more like the vintage hand embroidery...also, depends upon how many times the cross stitch design "crosses over" ...some are double cross or even triple cross designs...I would say take one and give it a test drive...

emblibrary recommends
Use cotton thread (30 - 35 weight sewing or embroidery thread).

I'm with odat...I buy most of my cotton quilting thread from Connecting Threads...but if you are looking for a heaver type like 30 wt...I don't believe they carry it...depends upon what weight thread you are looking for...
