Has anyone learned any more about using Soil Separator cloth for stablizer since this 2008 post? Thank you, Joan

I would buy the machine embroidery stabilizer,I got a huge roll for about what soil stabilizer would cost. It may be cheap but a new machine is not. what works for one may not work for another but I am just cautious where my machine is concerned

SOIL SEPARATOR is a spun–bonded, non–woven polypropylene fabric ,and as it's name suggests, is commonly used to separate different types of soils or aggregates in order to prevent them from mixing together and contaminating each other.
I've found the same stuff a in a bed skirt--the part that goes between the mattress and box spring.
I have used this for years and never had a problem. No loose pieces or lint . I don't use it for everything, but it makes a lighweight cutaway.
There is absolutely nothing "dirty" about it. Hasn't been near dirt.
Carriff even had a particular weight of the fabric that they sold for embroidery use, but I guess there were more people with preconceived notions that if it wasn't sold by a company with other "stabilizers" that there was something wrong with it.
I googled Carriff soil separator, and the page you get has info, and discussions from various forums and sites that you can read.

Spank me with a garden trowel and send me to bed without dinner...

Has anyone asked their service provider if the warranty on their machine would be honored if a problem occurred while using such untraditional embroidery materials with their machine?

Thank you so much for all your information. I will be getting some soon. I have wondered more about sewing on burlap and real velvet because of all the teeny-tiny bits of fabric dust they produce. I keep the vacuum near!

Interesting discussion. After checking a home improvement store, I may try this.

It isn't available here but I've used it. It's white as snow, kind of a really lightweight type fabric. My cousin from CA had sent me a roll, it doesn't get any cleaner Annie. lol! It doesn't shred or anything, works fine for me.

Just because it's white, doesn't mean it's clean.

One major YUUUUUCK from me. I can't imagine using this "fabric" indoors; can't imagine it being clean enough to warrant possible harm to an expensive embroidery machine let alone placing such dirty stuff in garments next to skin. I feel more comfortable paying the extra price for "real" clean stabilizer.
