What a wonderful Mom you are and I know how proud you must be that he loves his special quilt that you put time, effort and love into.
HI JRob, it looks like you are holding beautiful twins. My son is a twin and yes, I am so very fortunate because both my children value the love that goes into a creation for them.
Wow! What a wonderful heirloom! And how terrific to have a son who values you talent and knows the love that went into this fabulous quilt.
Yes, it is wonderful, except for when he wants me to "fix" a zipper or something! lol
Thank you so much for this wonderful idea. I still have custody of a lap quilt that my DMIL made for our son's 3rd Birthday from kids jeans shorts & the legs of Grandpa's worn out blue jeans, 35 years ago. It needs some repair & I'm thinking of doing the outside enlargement like a rag quilt. Thanks again for the inspiration!
Love the quilt. What is the product you used to repair the fabric? (product that stuck the material to the new fabric)
Happy Stitching & Quilting
WOW WOW Susan, I love your dragons. The yellow and green one is fantastic!!!! Are they stitched out in parts? I'd also would love to know where you purchased your dragons. I have some dragon designs but nothing as fantastic as your. I sure would love to get this information. I love large split designs, I have one of a elephant, it's in four parts, I got from BFC embroidery. Thank you for sharing such fantastic embroidery. Hugs Denise.
I checked out sadia sews, wow beautiful dragon. I'll check out lindee G now, sorry I didn't read you post properly before, I see the designers names now. Got distracted by the beautiful embroidery heehee. ;) hugs.
I am glad you found them. I love beautiful dragons and am always on the lookout for special ones. Let me know when you find one. I am also, looking for someone to digitize a large freestanding lace realistic dragon as well. Do you know of someone I can ask?
you did a fantastic remodel on the quilt... he will treasure it for ever..
Thank you mysew1325, he will. I know he will and that he will get good use out of it.
what a treasure - actually two of them - your son, and the new/old quilt - well done for being able to utilise the old and worn. This new quilt will give everlasting memories
He sure had to wait to get it! I began the remodel in late October and he finally got it for his birthday on April 4th. At least he got to see some of the progression.
I imagine it was hard for him to give up his old quilt in order for you to take it apart to make a new one. I have a son who has that same approach to his quilt that I made for his first birthday (a few decades ago). You did a fantastic job of making something new from something old. If you have any leftover pieces, you could even put together something for his daughter so that they could share that little piece of "history". Great job!!!
Justonlyme, you are so right. Levi was very concerned and made it very clear that if I couldn't turn it into a new quilt he didn't want me to tear it apart! He was going to save it as it was. I DO have a piece of his old quilt left and lots of the current fabric strips left and was wondering what I could do with them. Thanks for the fabulous idea! I can even use Ella's art work for the back of her quilt as well. Oh my goodness, I can hardly wait to get started!!!
I love the dragon and Chinese Characters! ( I am Chinese). --Lucia
I love Dragons and when I made the first quilt my son was working on his black belt in Kung Fu San Soo. You can't see the embroidery in the quilt because it is at the top and bottom corners but the designs were embroidered on top of the fabric. They do show but are mostly hidden by the busy fabric. Thanks for the comment Babolucia! I love dragons and search for them all the time! I especially like the dragon from Sadia Sews because that dragon can grow to any length and size you desire.
Wow, that sounds cool. I'll check it out. It's hard to find real Chinese dragons. Mostly the dragon designs are western dragons. But in China, dragons are blessings. Thanks for sharing with us.
which is exactly what we want from our quilts right, to be used & loved! well you did both & it is wonderful! a real tribute to the work you did was having him love it this much! hugs Loralye
Exactly, pldc. His quilt was made with love and wraps him and his daughter in love as well. I hope this quilt is enjoyed as much as his first one. Thank you so much for commenting. It puts all back into perspective. I am glad my children value the gifts that are made from the heart.
You did a great job on this! The dragons are lovely too.
You blended the old with the new very well. It looks amazing all the work that went into it.
Thank you Capoodle! I think I will pick something easier next time tho! Oh and maybe take a quilting class too. lol
I know it was a tough project to do, but what a compliment to you. Well done with both the first quilt and the new one. This one will be treasured for many years also.
Thank you o2kar, I was really pleased with the way it finally turned out! I am not a quilter. He will love his quilt, which will become a memory quilt on the back side. His 3 year old daughter (my Ella) likes to create with Grandma. We have a piece of material she painted and will add it with a saying and her age as she grows older. So, it looks like (yuck) hand sewing will be in order. LOL
I meant to say he took his first quilt in to have have it mended, not the new one lol.
