I had noticed a discussion regarding the use of a chisel for button holes.I use a chisel but instead of placing it on a wood block I use a plastic called -HDMW. This will not hurt the blade but will outlast wood. The chisel is only about $5 and can be found at any hardware store. Just get a knife man to sharpen edge better.Keep edge covered to protect from cuts. (HDMW can be found at any store that sells plastic, just be sure to look in the scrap bin first as it's expensive)

Fiberboard will also work great! If you have lots of buttonholes to do I would definetly find the chisel, Thanks
