It is called a Strummer and is a cross between an Appalachian dulcimer and a guitar. (Strung, fretted and tuned like a dulcimer but played like a guitar.) They were invented by Hugh Scullion who hand makes them to order.
I had a look at you Sue, sure looks fun. Loved the tap dancing ladies too Won't make any comments about the average age of all participants!!haha.
The ladies are the Slapdash Appalachian dance team. There were actually some younger people around but they missed being on the film!
