Somewhere, ONE CUTIE put a hint of some kind of surgical mesh gloves or some other kind of gloves to cut fingers out of and use as sleeves for emb thread spools.

Does ANYONE know what I am talking about? They are supposed to work BETTER than thread nets that are purchased specifically for emb thread spools to keep them from unwinding!
If someone knows anything about them PLEASE let all of us Cuties know.
Thank you SEW much.

I put a tiny tab of FROG (green) painters tape. The blue one works also and costs less.

Another way to keep the thread in place on the reel is to use the pony-tail covered elasticised bands that can be cheaply purchased at chain stores in packets. I have tried the elasticised finger bandage but in trying to be economical I cut them rather too narrow to really be effective. The pony-tail ones proved A1. Patricia

Maybe this would help you too? Michelle has posted this how she protect her thread (and no - this are no condoms although most of us had that thought at the first sight ;o).
Greetings, Bettina
PS: In Germany you can buy those latex-gloves where they sell cleaning powder...

Could it be latex gloves that are available in any pharmacy or grocery store. They have many other uses besides medical. Hugs. Nan

I just watched a video on youtube for making them out of "support hose" which I think means pantyhose here in Australia. Search for "make your own thread nets" - the youtube links don't always work, so I won't add one :)

Some kind of surgical finger bandage was mentioned on SewForum a couple of years ago, but I don't know where I'd get that here so haven't tried it.

Personally, I made some for my overlocker cones (and then borrowed them for my embroidery threads) by buying those puffy body scrubbies that come in a packet of 3 or so. I pulled apart the ribbons and stitching holding them together which resulted in a long tube of netting, although way too wide for thread nets so I ran it through my overlocker to make a smaller tube. A long time later I read that you can heat up the same netting stuff with a hair dryer to shrink it back to it's original shape (the puffies are all wonky when pull them apart) before sewing them smaller.

Apparently florists in the USA have some nets for flowers however when I asked a florist here she told me they're called "bud nets" and are only available around Mothers' Day because that's when they sell the most roses... didn't really help me because I was asking at the wrong time of year and a Google search didn't help me find a wholesaler either.

Ebay is a source for pre-made nets at good prices but you probably want them yesterday like I do lol.

How interesting that I'm looking at making my own thread nets today, while you're looking for the same info .. small world :) xXx
