Okay CUTIES- Tell me what I need to do next time. I did buy that machine, so I could now do the 5x7 designs. This is the first thing I tried. It's from Amazing Emb.I was having trouble with my tension, very tight, kept breaking my thread . I finally adjusted it and finished, but look at the puckering. I used tear away, should I have used cut-a-way? I use my test sititch-outs on Avery's bib, so I don't waste. I realize this probally is intended for linens, sheets and pillowcases, but I love this and am glad I saved it when Amazing gave it as a free design, even tho at the time I didn't have a bigger embrodiering field. Why do I have puckers?

Beautiful bib!!! I have a brother/babylock machine and I do use a thread stand for my stand up thread spools. My horizontal thread holders aren't that great in my opinion.

congrats on the new machine! You'll love the 5X7. I did this (except I did the K), but I did it on jean fabric and turned out great - so maybe the fabric your using needs more stabilizer. Still looks great!

Your design is very pretty - good job.
These tips are from all the advice I've heard and read from knowledgeable people in the field. Puckering is related to the stabilizer and the tension. #1 - DON'T stretch the fabric when putting it in the hoop. Starch the fabric really stiff beforehand if it's washable. Try a sticky-backed stabilizer - less likely to have puckering. Can also use 2 layers - bottom layer a sticky-back tear-away, then lightly iron a tear-away stabilizer (like Sulky Fuse-N-Tear or Totally Stable) on back of the fabric. Whenever possible I try to NOT hoop the fabric - I machine embroider a basting box around the outside edge of the design. If the fabric is very thin it may need to be stabilized itself with a light weight interfacing. You stabilize the fabric, then you stabilize the embroidery.

I am glad you got you 7x5, you will be pleased I am sure. I too have a few puckering problems, and I have started to put a small bit of anti slip stuff half way up each side of the hoop it is good on the thin fabric.
Hugs Pam.

I agree Toogie a big congrats on the new machine! & stabilizer doubled & laid in the 2 different directions always make a sturdy base to embroider on & the wss on the top. Hugs Loralye

Toogie. I know you will enjoy doing the larger projects with your new machine, The suggestions on using 2 pieces of stabilizer are good. Use them perpendicular to each other. Also remember this is a bigger hoop and the bigger your hoop is the less tension you have because of the bigger area across it. try the 5x7 elephant and them judge it. Maybe it is puckering because of the high stitch count. If it puckers with tht elephant then you need to adjust it more. Good Luck & Congrats, Susan

Congrats on the new machine! Love the colors you used in this design. I have had some success with starching the fabric, and using wash-away fusible along with two layers of light to medium weight cutaway hooped at 90 degrees to each other (one layer north to south, one layer east to west) if that makes sense. Hope this helps.
Hugs,
Cece

You and machine will soon be in harmony. The design is so beautiful! I think it might be just a little dense for the fabric (too many stitches?) If you can adjust the patterns density? Still, very beautiful. Tension change will probably help.

I can't help with the puckering...but the thread breaking, what i did was:

i bought a thread stand from Joann's for less than $10.00 and placed it to the left and a little behind my machine. once i did this i didn't have any more problems with my thread and needles breaking. the thread was being pulled too tight, getting caught on the spool.

i was on amazon.com a few minutes ago and they have several types... mine is the dritz brand for $6.69. Here is the web address so you can look and see what i am talking about.

i hope this helps, it sure solved my problems.

This bib you've done is lovely& sounds like you've gotten good advise on stabilizer. If your manual shows you an adjustment for types of fabrics try selecting the medium weight woven too. Enjoy the larger field to embroider on& thanks for sharing your project. :~D

I would try again with a thicker fabric and a stronger tear-away, or two sheets of tear-away. Tension, of course, is important, the top thread should flow easily, it shouldn't be tight. When I bought my brand-new machine, the factory-set tension was at 3 and was fine for sewing but not for embroidery, so I lowered to 2.8 and I left it at that.
Hugs, Lidia

Take a look at your settings. There should be a command that allows you to revert all of the settings to factory standards. Try resetting your settings and stitch out something. Afterward, if there is still a problem, try setting the tension lower to see if that will help.
Do keep in mind that sheets are very tightly woven. If you have a scrap of something like you are used to stitching on, give that a try, maybe not with such an intricate design.
You should have an instruction guide with your machine that has a troubleshooting section. Tension should be one of the issues it deals with!! Good luck!

perhaps it just needs to do a little bit of work, as it has hardly been used and everything is probably a bit stiff.

When I embroidery something that I want to make sure don't have any puckers, I use 100% cotton and put a layer of wss on top. Depends on what I'm making whether I use cut away or tear away. I use cut away on all stretchy fabrics and tear away on things like quilt blocks.

This was a cotton sheet, but I haven't used WWS on top, didn't see the need. I really didn't want the stiffness of cut-a-way for her bib. Thanks

I would try several built in designs and see how the tension is with the built ins..they should be perfect if you have used the proper stabilizer...I would start with cut away and standard good cotton and test away. Once you have sewn out a few built ins...test some you have downloaded...as for this design, try it again with cut away on cotton and see what happens...got a spare pillow case around that you don't really care about...that would be a good test...

This is part of a sheet, but good advice.

toogie by toogie 11 Aug 2013

I was hesitant about cut a way, as I was going to use for her bib, and it is so stiff.

can u stem them out by pulling the fabric??i think it was the tension likely??Looks great really hugs

I did iron/steam before and after. The tension was very tight, even when you lifted the pressure foot, you couldn't pull the thread.
