Little Heart Pillow

I haven't done any embroidery because I am in Phoenix, Arizona with my friend Jane. She bought a brother combo with 4*4 hoop 5 years ago and never used the embroidery.

I encouraged her to take out the machine and we went to Joann to get some tear-away stabilizer, one spool of white embroidery thread and 1 pack of embroidery needles. And here it is, a pillow for my daughter Lily made by Jane! How lovely!

Unfortunately, her machine doesn't have USB connectivity, which means she can only use the limited designs that came with the machine or purchase expensive embroidery cards (which she never will do). She has to miss out on so many wonderful designs that can be downloaded!

I did manage to make a little coaster with her by using the frame function on the machine. We chose a butterfly design for the center.

We still need to work on the tension of her machine because it doesn't look quite right yet. The important thing is, we've got a new embroiderer!

Jane is very excited. She made a pillow for her daughter Sophie and then one for my Lily.

can she get any kind of card reader off the net?

We checked out the price online. It would cost more than 100 to get a card reader and blank card. Costco has a 5*7 Brother machine on sale for 389 now. We don't think it worthwhile to make the 4*4 machine to work better spending over 100.

You have done well to get her started with the embroidery machine. Hopefully there will be no stoppin g her now. Such a lovely pillow she has made as well. Well done to both of you. Shirley

Thank you! It was fun! She is fascinated but also intimidated by the expenses, which we all know can add up to a lot.

It looks very pretty. Your friend could look for a card reader/writer and a blank card, maybe on ebay, a one-time investment that would enable her to use all those wonderful 4*4 designs that can be downloaded.

Thank you! Very useful information. We didn't know where to start. We will check that out. If it costs too much, she might as well get a Brother PE 700II from costco.com. It's only 389 this month. That's my machine now.

It's always fun to turn someone on to embroidery! A sweet pillow. She needs to invest in something like PED basic. Software to see designs and a card (with card writer) to use in the machine. I got one to use with a Brother 270SE that I was given. The card also works in my Babylock machines. I always lower the top tension, the thread lies smoother.

Thank you for the advice. I'll try the tension adjustment.
