My embroidery machine is down at the moment so I needed to find another project so I made these mini mitts for taking pans from the oven or dishes from the microwave. I saw these at a friend's house so I made my own pattern. They are made mostly from remnants in my stash. They have cotton batting for insulation and a magnet sewn inside so you can stick then right on the stove. I gave a pair as a gift at a bridal shower recently and got so many positive comments that I decided to make them for Christmas gifts. I hope that you like them too. Picture 2 shows the front of one and the back of the mate. Pictures 3 and 4 show one on my hand.

Fantastic! I may have to follow your lead! I am so sure this can be digi'd. It is a excellent piece.

Please tell me how you like these. I make my potholders giant because I fear getting burned. My potholders are mitts that go almost all the way to my elbows because just bumping the inside door or rack gives me a severe burn. I think you have a good idea there. I would like to hear YOUR review, and the review of anyone who has tried this concept.

I am using the 1st pair that I made and I love them. Regular oven mitts are fine for some things but they are way too bulky for taking things out of the microwave. You run the risk of your dish slipping out of your hand. Since your microwave itself does not get hot you don't have to protect yourself from burns there. These give you the flexibility of holding the dish securely. If you want to pull a cookie sheet out of the oven you can easily grasp the oven rack to pull it out and then grab the cookie sheet by the edges. I love using mine. Has anyone else tried these little mitts?

I only use 3 fingers and my thumb but you could put all 4 fingers in there if that works better for you. If your hands are larger you could customize it to fit your hand.

I may give my pattern a try then. I have seen these but really wondered if they were worth the effort. Now I have my answer. :) Thank you!

I'm looking at picture #2 and I see that there is a band of red on the finger part that is blending into the red under it so it appears to be smaller that it really is. I used scraps so sometime I had to piece something for it to be big enough.

That looks like the lining to me.

Yes, the lining is red and the band is red and they are not clearly defined so the finger portion appears to be quite short, which it is not.

Wonderful project and idea... I like mops said ..it is very helpful to see it on your hand so know how many fingers the larger part covers.. Thank you so much for sharing.

Cute. You are very clever to make your own pattern. They will make their new owners very happy.

Quite a collection! And a lovely one at that. The picture with the hand in it explains the shape and the use, thank you. They are very clever and pretty.
