I am just starting a baby quilt here are the first 2 blocks. I did something a little different, I wanted a trapunto effect but instead of using the batting in the back I did it in the front. I took the outlines for the design and made them one piece, decreased the size by 2% , that was for the batting. Then trimmed and appliqued as usually. I also used Steam a Seam light for backing on the applique pieces. I think when it is all quilted these will have an extra pop, or at least I hope so. This is from designs by JUJU , Gone Fishing. Thanks for looking!

These designs are quite cute. I hope you post the others as you make them! I learned a similar trapunto techinque to do by machine. You put the higher loft bat under the fabric instead of on top of the fabric. Then after you stitch, you trim the higher loft batt as close to the stitching line as possible. Then you use regular bat to make the quilt and quilt close to the outline as you can so you end up with two layers of bat under the design. I ususally do a small stipple around the design which helps the design pop up.

The reason I chose to use the batting on the top was to stop lint getting into the embroidery machine. I will bat the whole quilt when I am at that stage.
