My Mother & Grandmothers all used greased lunch wrap paper & salt. To show my age:- At School using a stove to heat the Iron we used a cloth with wax rubed in then sprinkled with salt. I remember tell my teacher that my Mum used paper & was told that I could use paper if I had plenty of money to throw away
Well it smells a little but this works like a charm! The wax paper & table salt sprinkled on top! Then I ironed on a waffle towel to remove any residue! Thanks so very much Ladies! Hugs Loralye ***
I can remember my mother using wax paper and salt when I was a child. I won't say how many years ago this was. Must be good if it is still around like Bev says. Joyce
I use Bi-carbonate Soda (Baking soda). Warm iron up just a little and dip a damp cloth into the powder and rub off when the iron has cooled down. It may take a while, depending on the build-up. I shall definitely try the wax paper and salt next time.
here is a cheap solution although I have never tried it_
Get a piece of wax paper, then sprinkle some table salt on the paper. Heat your iron (without steam) run the iron back and forth on the salt and wax paper. Should take all the built up off. Sometimes, I just run it over the wax paper without the salt. Works everytime!
it must work I've found lots of the same advice on internet
Eliminate sticky residue from an iron. Run the hot iron (no steam) over plain paper sprinkled with salt.
if your iron has a true stainless steel plate, you can use oven cleaner and it works like a charm on my iron
