When doing free standing lace with white thread is it better to use bobbin thread or same as top thread. Is there a difference between the two. Thanks for any answers.

http://www.theda-threads.com.au/1... if you look at this site they have some examples of lace work done in cotton. Most doilies you buy are cotton.

I use same thread in top and bottom also.. I also would take note of what shirlener says - she does heaps and heaps of fsl - and what she has posted always looks awesome.

I guess it's a mater of preference, but I like the bobbin and top thread to be same.

I don't have an answer, I just want to thank everyone for their comments because I've only done a few FSL designs so I am still trying to learn.

quiltrama, you have good answers here - but there is one think about lace that you have to consider - lace looks the same on both sides - if you use bobbin thread - thinking it will look the same - it will not - embroidery thread is different that your bobbin thread - if you want a quality piece of lace - use the same thread in the top and in the bobbin - now matter what - even if you are not going to turn it over - as some might think - it makes a huge difference to the over look of the item. Use top quality tools and you will be satisfied with your project. Hehehe! *4U

I haven't done that many FSL but I did Christmas Lace Ornaments for my friend at work and did two with with bobbin thread and then two where the thread matched the top. I thought the matching thread looked richer. She liked the white bobbin because of the contrast.

I use pre-wound bobbins when doing white.

I do use bobbin thread when I am doing white - mostly because I have it. If I am doing multi colored items, I use the same in bobbin and top. I have not really seen a difference in bobbin thread with the white projects, as apposed to the regular thread. I do a lot of FSL projects, and have done many using the white bobbin thread. I hope this has helped you.

I use the same color thread on top & bottom. It makes the finished item look much better. A flower for you.
